Bob Bradley Selects 20 Man Roster for Friendlies Against Poland and Colombia
Today Bob Bradley announced the roster for next week’s training camp in preparation for upcoming friendlies against Poland (Oct. 9) and Colombia (Oct. 12). The announcement gives fans their first glimpse of team USA since Bob Bradley’s contract was extended by four years to run through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to gather many of our players based in Europe and continue to build on the foundation we established during the last four years," said U.S. head coach Bob Bradley. "We believe we have a strong nucleus of talented players, many of whom we are going to challenge to assume greater leadership roles during the next four-year cycle. We certainly have ideas on how we want to move forward, and these games will be the start of that process."
The roster includes 13 players from the World Cup squad, but does not include American superstar Landon Donovan who is committed to the LA Galaxy during their playoff run. However, the roster does include the highly anticipated FC Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones for the first time. Jones, a dual citizen with the United States and Germany, became eligible for inclusion to US roster late in 2009 after recording 3 caps in friendly games for the German national team.
The U.S. will play Poland at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Oct. 9th at 8 p.m. ET, with the match to be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel and Galavision. Then the U.S. will Colombia on Oct. 12 at PPL Park in PA. at 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Galavision.
