WEEK 4: PICKS OF THE WEEK

Gus PapaioannouSep 28, 2010

Hard to believe we are in week four already! This will be a weekly column dedicated to my top NFL picks of each week. What makes me such an expert you ask? Well, I've been following the NFL going on 20 years and lets just say I have dabbled in some form of gambling throughout those years. And throughout those years I have had many lessons, some very expensive ones. I have learned to watch for streaks, watching for teams to peak and others to collapse, when to take a team at home and when to take them on the road, and to watch what Vegas does with regards to moving lines throughout the week.

Now we all know nothing is guaranteed, especially in sports, but you can always gain a slight edge when you pay attention to the previously mentioned factors. So here goes, I'm putting it all out there for all to critique, bash, thank, and perhaps even praise me.

And as always whether you are a casual gambler or a wanna be pro, remember to play responsibly.

Easy Pickins

SAN DIEGO - SEPTEMBER 19: Quarterback Philip Rivers #17 of the San Diego Chargers throws a pass against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Qualcomm Stadium on September 19, 2010 in San Diego, California. The Chargers won 38-13. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Ima

San Diego over Arizona

I know, I know who cant predict this one right? Although my pick is the Chargers it may not be as easy as you would think. Beanie Wells is back for AZ and he will have a big game because the Charges just cant stop the run. Rivers and company will have success in the air but don't expect another 450+ yards from him.

In the end the Chargers will cover the -8 and win 28 - 18

The Beatdown

Tennessee over Denver

After a week of being benched Vince Young went a safe 10 of 16 for 118 yrds and 1TD. Best of all, 0 INT's. With his confidence back intact and Chris Johnson still tearing it up things don't look good for Denver. Throw in the fact that the Titans are #5 vs the pass and this forces Denver to depend on newly signed Lawrence Maroney & worn down Correll Buckhulter for offence. This will be a very easy victory for the Titans.

Tennessee will dominate this game and easily cover the -6.5 points. Tennessee 31 -  Denver 10

Green Bay over Detroit

This is not the same Detroit team of past. These guys are young, confident and talented. They also can score, unfortunately they bump into a Packer team that will still be angry they let one get away vs Chicago on Monday night. Home field will also play a factor as the Pack is just unbeatable at home, especially vs the Lions. Detroit has not won there since 1991. 22 straight games = 22 straight losses. They will put up some points and a good fight but without Stafford & history against them Green Bay will prevail.

Green Bay -14.5 Green Bay 45 - Detroit 27

Philadelphia over Washington

Donavon McNabb will have a good game, the Washington D will not. The Eagles head into this one on fire and so is Vick. The Redskins pass D is 31st overall. The Eagles have Action Jackson, Maclin & Celek and a QB who's feeling great and playing better. What do you think will happen?

This will be a high scoring affair with the Eagles coming out on top.

Philadelphia -6 Philadelphia 38 - Washington 28

San Francisco over Atlanta

Again I usually don't like going against the home team, especially when they are favored, but this is the perfect scenario for a young team like Atlanta to have a letdown week. Coming home after beating the champs on the road and having to face the best 0 -3 team in the league the situation is ideal.

The 49ers still have a chance in a week NFC west division and they know it. Going 0 - 4 will not be a option. The offence should get going starting with Gore and the D will keep Flacco, Turner & company in check. This will be a defensive battle that San Fran will squeeze out.

Atlanta - 7. San Francisco 20 - Atlanta 17
