Donovan McNabb Driven by Dis: Washington Redskins' QB Faces Philadelphia Eagles

David DanielsSep 28, 2010

This upcoming Sunday, Donovan McNabb will face the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time in a Washington Redskins uniform.

He is going to take revenge to a whole new level.

Here are the five W's: who, what, when, where, and why—five ways in which the Eagles disrespected McNabb and what will be fueling him throughout the game.

Who

1 of 6

The Eagles traded McNabb for a second-round pick in 2010 and a fourth rounder in 2011. The second-round pick turned into free safety Nate Allen.

Apparently, Andy Reid values an unproven free safety over a quarterback who led the Eagles to four NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl berth.

Disrespect.

What

2 of 6

Actions speak louder than words, but these words were point-blank thunder.

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson told Sporting News that he was very happy with the trade and said, "I don't think we lost anything, even with McNabb gone."

McNabb wisely responded: “So I guess people will go deeper into it than I will. I'm a Redskin, no longer an Eagle. I had 11 great years and I'm moving on with my life, so whoever may say things when I'm gone, more power to them, but it's not making you look like a bigger man.”

It's not like McNabb hasn't been dissed by his No. 1 weapon before (see: Terrell Owens), but despite his denial of caring about the backstab, Jackson's quote still has to be in the back of his mind.

McNabb added: “It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there everybody loves you."

Disrespect.

When

3 of 6

McNabb wore green and white for 11 years.

As the face of the franchise, he should not have been traded. Similar examples have occurred in the past, but under much different circumstances.

Joe Montana was traded to the Chiefs after two years of being plagued by injuries where he lost his starting job to Steve Young. Brett Favre's retirement games forced the Packers to trade him to the Jets.

McNabb had neither been outplayed nor voiced his desire to leave the city of Philadelphia.

Where

4 of 6

Philadelphia shipped McNabb to its bitter rival, the Washington Redskins, a team the Eagles play twice a year.

By trading him to a divisional opponent, the Eagles are saying they aren't scared or even a little bit worried about facing him.

Disrespect.

Why

5 of 6

The Eagles obviously believed Kevin Kolb gave them the best chance to win right now.

A player who had only two professional starts, played in 12 games, and had thrown seven interceptions to four touchdowns in his career over a guy who is a six-time Pro Bowler and threw for 216 touchdowns to 100 interceptions and just under 33,000 passing yards.

Disrespect.

Conclusion

6 of 6

In one of his many unparalleled pregame speeches in his time as an Eagle, Brian Dawkins preached: "They don't respect us, and the only way you get respect is you take it! You take it! This is going to be our house, at the end of this thing, our house!"

Donovan McNabb is returning to the show he ran for 11 years.

He is going to ignite Sunday night and take back that respect.
