Greg Olsen: See the Catch That Helped Chicago Bears Move To 3-0

Sam WestmorelandSep 28, 2010

Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen has seen his stats take a hit in 2010. With new offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system, Olsen has been relegated to blocker on most of the game's plays. But Monday night, against the Green Bay Packers, Olsen made a touchdown grab that changed the face of the game. Let's take a look.

Setting the Stage

Olsen had been having a relatively quiet game to that point, with just two catches for 18 yards. The Bears offense had been sputtering badly all night, and they faced a 3rd-and-6 from Green Bay's nine-yard line. With just 31 seconds to play in the half, Chicago was trailing 10-0, and needed something good to happen to keep things going.

Quarterback Jay Cutler took the snap, and delivered a strike to Olsen. The tight end went down to make the catch, but slid the remaining yard into the end zone.

What It Meant

Olsen's touchdown grab resulted in a huge momentum swing heading into the halftime break. The Bears' offense had struggled to make any dent in the Packers' defense to that point, and if they had been forced to kick a field goal there, the game would have had a noticeably different feel to it in the second half.

Instead, Chicago went into halftime riding high, while Green Bay's confidence was at a low point. Olsen's catch changed the game for good.
