Kay's View: Glory Glory Man United or Man Divided?
Glory Glory Man. U - what? United you say?
Well at least that’s what the crowd on the Stretford End like to sing when United are playing at Old Trafford; but somehow I do not see where the ‘united’ aspect is at the moment, nor the ‘glory’ for that matter.
Their defensive woes are a continuation from last year. Now that is a part of the team that is definitely not united. There does not seem to be much communication between them. On the other hand how could there be with so many replacements and injuries?

However this is not the only problem. The feared Vivic of 2007-08, 2008-09 has disappeared, Ferdinand has no back apparently, Evans does not seem to be improving, O’shea is all over the place, Evra has become too short to head any balls, Neville has gotten old, and the Da Silva twins have still not nourished into world class side backs.
In two of the three away games that they have played this season, they have let in goals in the last 5 minutes of game time. This is certainly not bringing any glory to a team that 2 seasons ago had a record of 11 consecutive clean sheets.
How about the midfield though? What is happening there? Well the midfield is another reason why United have been letting in late goals this season. Because of the over reliance of the old guard, Giggs and Scholes, the midfield is getting tired a lot easier than last year. The younger and fitter Fletcher and Nani have to constantly be on their toes to track back and cover the old guard when they have not got themselves back in position quick enough to defend. This makes Fletcher’s and Nani’s game a lot more tiresome and troublesome for that matter.
United really need to get themselves a creative midfielder to fill in Scholes’ shoes. Ferguson should do everything in his power to get Sneijder when the new transfer window opens. He should make the Glazers give money from their own pocket if he wants to save the club from having a dreadful season.
It is a wonder what Berbatov must be thinking of this year, he must be ruing his luck. He is finally striking the ball on target, something that in the last two seasons seemed impossible, but the defense that is in total disillusion is letting him down. To add to this, Rooney is also in total disarray. Last year he was hailed in the media outlets for how he played on the pitch, this year he is being ‘hailed’ for how he has allegedly being playing of it.
On Wednesday, United travel to Spain to face Valencia. They have a chance to regroup themselves away from England and show the world that they are still a force to be reckoned with this season. They will have to pick up the pace and start dominating on the pitch, because at the moment the only place United and in fact Rooney is dominating, is in the papers.
