5 Players That Need to Pick Up Their Game for Chivas This Season

Roberto MaciasSep 27, 2010

Ever since their finals appearance in Copa Libertadores this year, Chivas has been on a decline in their game. In this year’s Apertura 2010, after 8 games, they sit in 13th place with only 10 points of a possible 24. They have the best defense this season with only 7 goals against, but are in 17th in goals scored, with only 7 goals.

Here are 5 players who need to pick up their game to help Chivas this season reach this year’s "Liguilla" and with 9 games left Guadalajara needs to pick up and start winning...soon.

Alberto "El Venado" Medina

1 of 5

Even if Medina has been injured for the past weeks, this is a player who has been missed by Chivas fans. “El Venado” brings that extra spark up top and creates great opportunities of goals for Chivas. Since his injury, Chivas has lacked the explosiveness that it’s used to having.

We all know that he is just returning from an injury, but how the saying goes he “has to hit the ground running” for the benefit of the team.

Omar Arellano

Omar Arellano has had very bad luck with injuries. Ever since his last injury he hasn’t been able to recuperate his skill that even took him to the Mexican National Team. In the last games he has been chosen to come in, he has had no positive input to the team.

He was recently sent to Colombia for an improvement in his physical and personal aspect. All Chivas fans expect that he comes back to meet fans expectations.

Omar Bravo

3 of 5

One of the greatest goal scorers in the history of Chivas. Omar Bravo has had his ups and downs with the team. Currently, it seems that he is on a downfall. Having the starting position since the beginning of the season, Omar Bravo has only scored two goals in the past six games and receiving a two game suspension for a red card vs. Jaguares, isn’t going to help.

Even though fans love his heart on the field, they would love for him to start scoring again.

Sergio Avila

“El Pitufo” has recently came back from a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for the past three seasons. But many Chivas fans want him back on the starting eleven. A young but highly skilled player, Avila won the hearts of many Chivas fans when he proved he can take over Adolfo Bautista’s spot back in 2007. The injury left him off the fields for quite some time, but now he seems to be back to playing form. Many fans have asked for this player to return and get another opportunity at the starting eleven.

Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista

The fans asked for his return last season, and Chivas responded. Chivas owner, Jorge Vergara brought “El Bofo” back to Chivas for a second opportunity at the team. Bautista returned to the team last season, after a failed attempt in Jaguares de Chiapas. He somewhat picked up his skill again in Chivas, so much so that he was in the final squad for Mexico’s National team for the 2010 World Cup.

Adolfo Bautista has not met the expectations of Chivas fans. He has seemed slow and out of shape, and seems that he has lost that interest of playing the game. His last games have been close to some of his worst in his career and week after week he has been given an opportunity in the starting eleven.  Many fans have questioned if he should even have a spot in the first team.  Many believing that maybe some time on the bench will make him pick up his game and put the team on his shoulders how he used to.
