Iowa Hawkeye Football: Stanzi Film Review: Ball St Cardinals

Stanzi came out and did exactly what he supposed to, put up big numbers against a lesser opponent and make it look easy.  Iowa only threw the ball down-field 5 times and Stanzi completed all 5 of them. He looked good on deep balls once again this week and his command of this offense is very impressive. He knows all the reads and will need to with teams loading the box against Iowa as the season goes on.

The weather conditions were tough at Kinnick Saturday and probably had something to do with the 4 drops by receivers.  The bad QB/Center exchanges are something you never want to see and they showed up twice in this game. I'd expect this problem to go away after this week as it was likely due to the weather conditions.

Stanzi is way ahead of where I thought he'd be statistically and his decision making looks to be much improved this season. His accuracy has been better so far this year as well. His overall arm strength appears to be up a notch or two as well. He's continued to show great touch on the deep ball and teams will pay for it if they run single high safety schemes against Iowa. Through 4 games Stanzi has already improved his draft stock and if he continues on this path during a tough Big 10 schedule he'll end up in the Heisman debate.

+1 Great touch on this ball to DJK for the TD. A good read here also as all 11 guys are within 8 yards of the LOS and DJK’s corner was in press. Almost a free TD here. D6 Play 3

+1 Great ball on a single man route that should have been an easy TD that gets dropped. D8 Play 6
+1 Big TD pass over the top here as he fires a good throw on the scissor route. Was just a touch under thrown but with the conditions as they were this was a pretty good throw. Actually had Davis wide open on the underneath route of the scissors combo but waited for DJK to clear over the top and went for the end zone. D9 Play 6
