Fantasy Football Week 4: Get Your Waiver Claims On These Waiver Gems
Now that we've gone through three weeks of fantasy football, you probably have a good grasp of your team.
You're either a team that knows it's going places and can just fill in some gaps in depth of your roster, or you're like me and you're staring 0-3 in the face (I need Donald Driver to get two big scores and some decent yardage tonight. It can happen, right?)
If you're like me, there are 10 players to target to help bolster your roster. If you're in my league and reading this, then we have a problem. If you're not, enjoy the tips and please know that my current record is nowhere near an indicator of my knowledge. It's not my fault Matt Schaub and Ray Rice aren't showing up to play on Sunday.
No. 10: Jason Snelling
1 of 10
After a huge game against Arizona after starter Michael Turner went down, Snelling's numbers did take a hit with Turner's return to the lineup.
Snelling ran for 62 yards, which isn't really helping you in many leagues but not so fast. The former Virginia Cavalier got 14 carries on Sunday and that amount of touches makes him valuable. Snelling will get touches in the Falcons offense and it will pay off as a flex play in your league.
He'll be available, so scoop him up. Atlanta has San Francisco this week and the 49ers are awful on defense right now. Look for him to get you double digit points next week.
No. 9: BenJarvis Green-Ellis
2 of 10
With Lawrence Maroney out in New England, it looks like Green-Ellis is the man for the Patriots going forward.
Green-Ellis got more touches than Fred Taylor, who has to be in his 30th season in the NFL, and this week he had a big game against Buffalo. He rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown and he'll make a great backup or flex play in most leagues.
The Pats have Miami next week and it looked like the Jets had trouble stopping the run this week against Miami at times. Green-Ellis won't have the production he did this week, maybe seven or eight points, but look at the pick up as more of an investment down the line.
No. 8: Tennessee Titans D/ST
3 of 10
Three weeks in and the Tennessee Titans have one of the best defenses in football. As a Titans fan, I'm as shocked as you.
Now, you need to keep in mind that the Titans played Oakland and Pittsburgh the first two weeks, two teams that aren't exactly the 1999 St. Louis Rams. However, Tennessee did a great job of forcing turnovers against a very potent Giants offense on Sunday.
Three forced turnovers, only 10 points allowed and two sacks make a pretty great defense. The Titans have been putting up double digits points every week and that's something that's pretty valuable.
Tennessee has Denver this week and I think the Titans will have another solid performance this week.
No. 7: Mark Clayton
4 of 10
I think it's time to admit that Mark Clayton's performances weren't flukes.
While Clayton didn't grab a touchdown this week, he did have five grabs for 85 yards which is a solid play for a wideout. Of course you want a touchdown in there, but it's not a deal breaker for me as far as I'm concerned.
Clayton has built up a connection with rookie Sam Bradford and with Stephen Jackson out, Clayton should be getting more looks now as the Rams will have to pass more with the running game being less effective.
The Rams have Seattle this week and I think Bradford will find Clayton a few times on Sunday.
No. 6: Willis McGahee
5 of 10
If you're a Ray Rice owner like myself, you're upset and concerned. Rice hasn't played up to his potential so far this season and now he hurt his knee this Sunday.
It doesn't look like it's anything serious but if you can afford to, I'd pick up Willis McGahee off of waivers. Not only is McGahee a touchdown vulture, but he might get increased action with Rice nursing an injury.
Baltimore's offense showed signs of life this week against Cleveland. However, Baltimore is running up against Pittsburgh so if you do pick him up, leave him safely on your bench because it's going to be a long day for the Ravens' offense.
No. 5: Peyton Hillis
6 of 10
You may remember Hillis from his brief flash of greatness in Denver a few years ago, but now he's back in Cleveland and he's worth the pickup.
Hillis became the guy for the Browns after Jerome Harrison went down with an injury and he responded against Baltimore. The back rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown against a good defense in Baltimore and that makes him a play if you're thin at the position going forward.
The Browns have the Bengals next week and I think he'll find room to run against the Cincy defense with a touchdown thrown in there.
No. 4: Louis Murphy
7 of 10
While the quarterback situation is atrocious in Oakland, for some reason, Louis Murphy just keeps producing.
This week, Murphy pulled in five passes for 119 yards a week after pulling in six for 91 yards and a touchdown. Murphy is the best target for Oakland and his quarterback, mostly Bruce Gradkowski has found him time and time again.
The Raiders have Houston next week and you can throw on the Texans so look for Murphy to get a good chunk of yardage and a touchdown against the Houston secondary.
No. 3: Dustin Keller
8 of 10
Keller is quickly becoming Mark Sanchez's favorite target and while tight ends are a dime a dozen, that only applies to draft strategy (at least for me).
In my league, I grabbed John Carlson and Greg Olson but I'm looking to pick up Dustin Keller with the quickness. Keller had two touchdown grabs against Miami and not to mention 98 yards through the air.
Keller is a wideout in a tight end's body and if Braylon Edwards misses any time due to suspension, Keller could have even more impact in the offense. The Jets play Buffalo next week and that's just a fantasy holiday for any matchup. Keller will find the end zone next week and make plenty of grabs across the middle for New York.
No. 2: Lance Moore
9 of 10
Moore finally broke out in the Saints offense this week, not to mention its special teams filling in for Reggie Bush on punt return duties.
Moore won't be explosive every week which makes him a great flex play and depth at the wideout position. You'll have to look at the matchups but in New Orleans' high-powered offense, Drew Brees will eventually find him for some big gains.
The Saints have Carolina next week and the Panthers are just dead in the water and it's only going to be Week 4. Look for Moore to make another long TD grab against Carolina.
No. 1: Austin Collie
10 of 10
So when I was doing my fantasy draft, I thought I would be slick and take Austin Collie in my league's draft.
Since then I've left him on my bench all three weeks and each week I've been upset that I have. Now that Collie had a career day, he's not going to be a secret anymore. Pick him up now that Pierre Garcon and Anthony Gonzalez are a little banged up.
Anybody can put up big numbers with Peyton Manning under center and Collie is proving that. The Colts have Jacksonville next week. Enough said. It'll be a big day for Collie and the Colts.
