Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice: Get 'em or Don't Sweat 'em, Week 3

Ryan LesterSep 27, 2010

There were some unusual heroes on Sunday—there always are.

Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.

QBs

Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs: He had more yards today (250) than he had in his first two games combined (244). He also had three TD passes.

They face the Texans in two weeks, which may be a sneaky bye week play.

Ruling: Get ‘em (if your QB is on bye in Week 5)

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills: Fitzpatrick threw for 247 yards with two TDs and two INTs vs. New England.

He added 18 yards in the ground, but I’m not ready to trust him. Only pick him up in deep two-QB leagues.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Charlie Batch, Pittsburgh Steelers: Batch came up big for the Steelers with three TD passes, but he’s not worth adding.

They play Baltimore next week, and then Big Ben returns after the bye.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

 RBs

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, New England Patriots: The Law Firm ran for 98 yards and a score. Fred Taylor was ineffective.

The Pats’ RB situation is always a tricky one. If you’re hurting at RB though, he’s worth a shot.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

 WRs

Dexter McCluster, Kansas City Chiefs: He is an electric playmaker, but he doesn’t get enough touches to be a solid fantasy play, despite his 69 yards and 31 yard TD.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints: My guess is he’ll be a hot commodity on the waiver wire after catching six passes, two of them TDs, for 149 yards.

I’m not going to say leave him, but do realize the Saints are pretty inconsistent spreading the ball around.

Then again, with Reggie Bush out, he could be Brees’ safety net.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

Brandon Lloyd, Denver Broncos: Lloyd’s six catches for 169 yards and a score may have come as a surprise, but he had eight catches for 170 yards in Denver’s first two games.

Clearly, he’s a big part of Denver’s offense.

Ruling: Get ‘em.

 TEs

Tony Scheffler, Detroit Lions: He had a big day (seven catches, 60 yards, TD), but the Vikings struggle to contain TEs.

Last week, it was Pettigrew getting the looks. This may just be a situation to avoid both players.

Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Benjamin Watson, Cleveland Browns: Watson caught five passes for 47 yards and a score against Baltimore.

He’s a decent backup tight end for the bye weeks.

Ruling: Get ‘em
