New York-Detroit: Rangers Lose to Red Wings; Second Roster Cuts to Come

Nick PerriSep 26, 2010

Today, the Rangers played their third preseason game of 2010-11 against the Detroit Red Wings. After two excellent overtime victories over the New Jersey Devils, the Rangers took their first preseason loss to the Red Wings.

For anyone that missed the game, here is a goal-by-goal box score.

17:30: Patrick Eaves finds the back of the net, giving Detroit a commanding 5-3 lead late in the game. The Red Wings won the game, 5-3.

"Star of the Game"

My pick will not be a player, because quite frankly no player stood out from the rest in my opinion. The "Stars of the Game" for me were the Rangers penalty killing squad. The Rangers killed multiple penalties in tonight's game, including a pivotal five-on-three.

Players including Ryan McDonagh, Brandon Dubinsky, Derek Stepan, Pavel Valentenko, Alexei Semenov, and Dan Girardi looked extremely impressive on the penalty kill. Alexander Frolov and Sean Avery also looked impressive in tonight's loss.

Roster Cuts

It is believed the Rangers will make their second roster cuts of 2010-11 sometime tonight, and make a few more tomorrow afternoon.

I will try to update this article when/if the Rangers make their roster cuts tonight, and have a fresh article up tomorrow afternoon (around 3:00 PM) with any roster cuts made at tomorrow's practice.
