College Football: SEC Power Rankings Week 4: Who Belongs Where

Chris NelsonSep 26, 2010

We had big games and surprising outcomes in week 4 in the SEC.  Only one thing is certain to me right now.  We can be sure that the rightful top two teams in the conference will take their spot heading into the SEC regular season showdown of the year.  We also now know Mark Richt is on fire!  Too bad I mean that in a negative way.  So, where does Georgia drop?  Where does everyone else fall into place?  let us find out. Shall we?

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide 4-0 (1-0)

MY BCSFP Top 25 Ranking - #1

Last Result - 24-20 Win at #7 Arkansas

Seriously, did you expect anything different?  Alabama looked awful in the first half against the Hogs.  the young defense was carved apart by mallet and the offensive play calling was not what it should have been. It looked as if Arkansas would become #1 in the SEC.  then the second half came around.  The Crimson Tide shut down the hog offense and outscored Arkansas 17-0 in the last 16 minutes of the game.  The Crimson Tide proved that they have what it takes to overcome adversity and storm back to win a game like a true champion.  That's a good lesson to learn going into another mega-showdown with Florida.

My BCSFP Ranking - #5

Last Result - 48-14 Win vs Kentucky

Our  good friend Urban Meyer seems to have finally gotten the boys together as Florida surprisingly murdered Kentucky. Urban choose the perfect time too, as Florida is about to travel to Bryant-Denny to seek their revenge on the mighty Crimson Elephants who massacred their National Title bid last season.  this game is so important it rightfully gets CBS's one primetime game this season.

My BCSFP Ranking - #8

Last Result - 35-27 Win Vs #11 South Carolina

Cameron Newton is Auburn's Tim Tebow.  he is that one guy that can carry the entire team on his back.  Without him, i think this is a 1-3 Auburn football team.  With Newton, this might just be the team that wins the SEC.  Auburn has a defense that can play well if remember to show up for the game.  The offense is dangerous with Newton.

Ranking in my BCSFP: #14

Last Result - 24-20 Loss Vs #1 Alabama

Arkansas looked like the best team in the SEC in the first half against Alabama.  then the Crimson Tide woke up and whipped the Razorbacks for the next 30 minutes. It's a tough loss for Arkansas to swallow, but this team will have an outstanding season. Ryan Mallet's Heisman hopes might be dead, but he is still the #1 passer in the country in my mind.

Ranking in my BCSFP - #15

Last Result - 20-14 Win Vs #21 West Virginia

LSU proved they could beat a real team; however, I am not convinced they are that good.  the defense has played well in ever game since the UNC debacle, but the LSU offense is awful.  They have no passing gamw what so ever.  Jordan Jefferson is the worst starting quarterback of the SEC's major programs.  if LSU does not figure out what to do at that position, this team will waste the talent they have everywhere else and will once again be a huge disappointment.

My Ranking - #18

Last Result - 35-27 Loss At #14 Auburn

Well, I thought Spurrier was back.  All looked well against Auburn.  then late in the game South Carolina's quarterbacks became walking turnovers and Auburn was promoted to #3 in the league behind its two super powers.  South Carolina can still win the East, but it is going to be an up hill climb with the difficulties at the quarterback position.  They cannot afford these costly turnovers costing them anymore conference victories.

Last Result 24-12 Win Vs Georgia

Mississippi State looks strong coming off a dominating 24-12 win over Georgia.  The Bulldogs have a smothering defense and they seem to have finally gotten the offense to click a little bit. You have to like this teams chances to return to the post-season.  After all, they lost a close one to a tough Auburn team, and played well against LSU on the road outside of stupid mistakes by their quarterbacks.

last Result - 48-14 Loss At Florida

Kentucky looked decent for a while, at one point trailing only 27-14 in the 3rd quarter against the mighty Gators.  then it turned ugly.  This Kentucky team probably isn't the 8th best team in the league, but right now they are the 8th least embarrassed in the league.

Last Result - Bye Week

Vanderbilt is here by default.  They get placed ahead of all the teams with .500 or worse records who don't have a conference victory, but fall behind Kentucky because of the Wildcats 3 wins. With upcoming games against UCONN and Eastern Michigan, Vandy should find themselves at 3-2 before everything falls apart like it always does.

Last Result - 24-12 Loss At Mississippi State

Are we sure this is Georgia?  if it is are we sure Mark Richt is the coach and not Ray Goof?  It sure does not seem like any Mark Richt coached Georgia team I have ever seen.  The Dogs sit in shame at 0-3 in conference.  What can be done to save this team from the SEC cellar and keep Richt's job on life support?  I have no clue, but if mark doesn't figure something out he will be looking for a new gig at the end of the season.

Ok, Tennessee may be as bad off as i first thought.  Double overtime to beat UAB?  that is just sad.  the Vols hae some huge issues, and things will not get any better in baton Rouge.  Tennessee will just have to settle for their 4 or 5 wins and hope things get better as soon as possible.

Last Result - 55-28 Win vs Fresno State

This is a team that should be 4-0, instead they are 2-2.  they still are the biggest joke in the SEC because of their collapse against JSU.  ad they only won that game they would ranked ahead of Georgia and Tennessee right now, but instead they are the laughing stock of the SEC.
