After the Win over Northern Colorado

Another beautiful day for football and the Spartan Faithful..   45 – 7 over Northern Colorado…

Though we anticipated and were rewarded with a victory, from the stands, we’re left with some thoughts… about  some Stunning positives and some Blatant concerns… 
Here they are in no particular order…..

1. Spartans head into Big Ten play undefeated.. and 2 wins away from Bowl eligibility…. First time since 2007 I think…

2. The Spartan Offense is looked primed for Big Ten play.. They will put points on the board.  The Skill players are talented, despite the lines softness in letting pressure through.

3. 532 yrds.  Of total offense.. 223 Rushing, 331 yards passing..  Spartans will score points, period.

4. Kirk Cousins went 16 – 20, Maxwell went 3 – 5…

5. LeVeon continues to huge yardage.. 92 yrds and 410 for the year. Baker is at 460 for the year, with 59 against the Bears…

6. Greg Jones.. STUD !   Two interceptions, and leads the Spartans in tackles with 33 for the year…

7. Defense looked better this week… 4 interceptions, but Zero sacks on a much smaller offensive line from a 1-AA school…

8. Maxell was sacked twice by that 1 – AA school….

9. Kicking: crappy…. I miss Swenson…  Heck there was one punt that lead to the only score for NCS, from the seats it looked as though it only went 20 -  25 yards tops.… its was bad…

10. Kick Offs.. Muma can’t get the ball in the end zone or within the 5… Is he too small ??

11. Penalties… Holy Mother Mary and Joseph…  11 for 121 yards.. that’s more distance then the entire length of the field.  Oh, by the way.... no more Personal Fouls.. I think I counted  5 of them ?

12. Fan Base in the stands.. this was the WORST game for fan support I have seen in a long time.. Many new faces, many ticket holders gave away this game to newbies.. it was terrible.. I give the people in the seats, bleachers and stands a big fat "D-"... It was embarrassing this week..

I called in to the WJR Post Game Live show with Jim Miller.. I listen to this show each and every week... Love these guys and their thoughts.. usually... This week tried to explain my concern about the sacks…and he wasn’t paying attention and tried to talk about the lack of Spartan Offensive sacks on the opponents, when the real concern is the Sacks the opponents have been laying  on the  Spartans.. Frankly, Spartans allowed only 14 sacks all 2009, so far they have allowed NINE in the first 4 games of 2010...

He did correct it finally, thanks Jim and Stayhorn!   And thanks Your response was right on… Jim’s response in a nut shell is that we have a line still in transition, and we’re working to still slot guys in… Unfortunately, This is apparent.. I'll call in next week Jim.. Lets see how the "O" line does and discuss it again...

It’s a good thing Maxwell got some reps today, since if Cousins continues to get pressured and sacked, he will be hurt at some time this season, and we will need a back up with some game experience…

Well it’s a win Spartans have some work to do….. And we will stay in the top 25….
 
And now on to Big Ten play and Wisconsin…
