Abou Diaby and Denilson Need More Fight In Midfield

Linus NwekeSep 25, 2010

It seems quite perplexing as to why some Arsenal players do not show enough fight or passion for the Arsenal shirt. Abou Diaby and Denilson are two gifted players, but need to show more aggressiveness in midfield. Only Alex Song is doing the dirty, hard work in midfield while Diaby or Denilson seem to be coasting.

What do these two players offer the Arsenal team with their talents? It remains to be seen. They both score goals at times. But not regularly. So why can't they just simply by tackle opposing teams with determination.

Why can't they just take a look at Wilshere who by the way is only 18 years old? He is not afraid to confront opposing players in midfield. In fact, he not only creates goal chances, he also fights to win the ball back and helps defensively. He did so all game long against Tottenham in midweek.

Now is the time for them to step up. Watching Diaby today was painful. He couldn't make a pass. He couldn't tackle. He had no fight whatsoever in his veins.

Denilson too is a fantastic passer of the ball but needs to show more passion, more desire to win balls in midfield, and take the pressure of Alex Song.

Arsene Wenger has worked his magic in the transfer window by signing Squillaci and Koscielny. But why are Arsenal still conceding stupid goals? It is because the team needs to iron out Diaby and Denilson. People are quick to point the finger at Almunia, but the loss was not solely his fault.

The Westbrom match showed the good and the bad qualities of the Arsenal team. They lost today but still have time to recover quickly before the Chelsea match. This will be the biggest match of their careers. It is high time they step up and become the next Vieira and Gilberto Silva.
