TCU-SMU: Post-Game Thoughts and More

Jabber HeadSep 25, 2010

The game was over when TCU responded to the SMU touchdown to open the third with a huge kickoff return. TCU fixed some of its problems and dominated the second half of the game. SMU still managed to put up some points and had a chance at the end to make it 31 for the game.

They were just outmatched and outclassed.

SMU's QB was taking hits all throughout the game; overthrowing open guys, and sitting with the ball way too long. He played a decent game, though. The little delayed draw was SMU's bread-and-butter for most of the game. TCU didn't do enough to pass Boise St. in the polls, but it doesn't matter.

Lets now compare Boise St. and TCU.

They both play Oregon St., which is a solid game, but nothing special. Boise St. played Va. Tech, after which ESPN reported "they passed that test with flying colors."  Last time I checked, it was a three-point win and it took Boise St. a final drive late in the game to win.

Va. Tech then went on to lose to James Madison, a subdivision school.

It doesn't matter that TCU didn't do enough tonight. Yes, it was a national platform for them to showcase what they can do, but this TCU team isn't Boise St.

TCU didn't play its toughest opponent tonight, but the season isn't over yet. TCU will actually have to play conference foes week-to-week that are average to above- average teams. They'll play a BYU team that is decent, an Air Force team that is very solid, and a Utah team that is good.

If Boise St. and TCU go undefeated, I'd put TCU ahead of them in a heartbeat. It doesn't even matter to me who is better, TCU does more during the season.

With that said, I put a one-loss, any-conference team ahead of an undefeated TCU or Boise St. I put a two-loss team with a solid schedule ahead of Boise St., but not TCU.

TCU plays a strong enough schedule to be put ahead of any two-loss team if they run the table. I know, two-loss teams making it to an NCAACG is unlikely, but there's a lot of season left.

TCU does more throughout the season and should be ranked ahead of Boise St. if they both run the table.
