NFL Picks Week 3: 10 Underdogs That Will Cover the Spread
The wait for Week 3 of NFL football is almost over, and we are in for another action-packed football Sunday.
Some of our preseason favorites have started their seasons 0-2, while other perennial underdogs have yet to lose.
So what about Week 3? Will this be the week that the Vikings finally add a win to their record?
Or will this season continue to surprise us?
Here we'll take a look at 10 underdogs that could do better than expected in Week 3.
10. Tennessee at New York Giants
1 of 10
Favorite: Giants -3
Take the Points: The Titans had a tough loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but the Giants' defense isn't even close to that of the Steelers.
The Giants have had problems with Brandon Jacobs, and even though the Titans have issues at quarterback, I still expect them to pull off the upset over New York.
Predicted Score: Titans 21, Giants 17
9. Oakland at Arizona
2 of 10
Favorite: Cardinals -4.5
Take the Points: The Raiders are a better team than their performance so far this season will let us believe. Arizona got royally stomped by the Atlanta Falcons last week, and I think the Cardinals will have trouble against Oakland.
We still don't know what's going on with Beanie Wells, and I cannot confidently say that Arizona will win. The Raiders defensive line shows promise, and I expect them to give the Cardinals a run for their money.
Predicted Score: Raiders 24, Cardinals 14
8. Indianapolis at Denver
3 of 10
Favorite: Colts -5.5
Take the Points: The Colts will win this game, but it will be closer than expected. Kyle Orton is proving to be a pretty reliable quarterback, and this game will come down to who scores last.
Predicted Score: Colts 38, Broncos 35
7. Philadelphia at Jacksonville
4 of 10
Favorites: Eagles -3
Take the Points: I want to preface this one by saying that I like Michael Vick, and I am very proud of how he has been playing.
That being said, I'm predicting an upset here. Vick has a lot to prove after replacing Kevin Kolb as the starting quarterback, and I think this will be a true test of his talent at the position. I'm still not totally convinced that Vick has what it takes to completely command the Eagles' offense.
Predicted Score: Eagles 24, Jags 31
6. San Diego at Seattle
5 of 10
Favorite: Chargers 5.5
Take the Points: The Bolts are hurting on offense, with Ryan Mathews still questionable and Phillip Rivers cracking under pressure in Week 1 against Kansas City.
This will be a breakout game for Seattle, and I think we'll realize that the Seahawks are better than we thought.
Predicted Score: Chargers 21, Seahawks 28
5. Green Bay at Chicago
6 of 10
Favorite: Packers -3
Take the Points: This will be a great game for Monday Night Football, and both teams are undefeated so far.
I like the way that Jay Cutler has been playing, and if the Bears offensive line can keep him upright, Chicago will pull off the upset.
Predicted Score: Packers 31, Bears 34
4. Atlanta at New Orleans
7 of 10
Favorite: Saints -4
Take the Points: The Saints are not the Saints of last season. As hard as it may be for some of you to accept, deep down you know this is true.
In the past five games (dating back to last season), the Falcons have allowed 15 points or less. Combine that statistic with the Saints losing Reggie Bush, and this pick turns into a no-brainer.
Predicted Score: Falcons 27, Saints 24
3. Cleveland at Baltimore
8 of 10
Favorite: Ravens -10.5
Take the Points: Don't laugh. I know we're talking about the Cleveland Browns here. But 10.5 points?
The Browns will have to depend on Josh Cribbs to have an outstanding performance to put up points against the Ravens, but I think it could happen.
I think that Joe Flacco needs a little work commanding the Ravens offense, and he has all the right targets. He's just not quite there yet.
Predicted Score: Browns 13, Ravens 17
2. Detroit at Minnesota
9 of 10
Favorite: Vikings -11.5
Take the Points: We may have expected the Lions to start 0-2, but the Vikings are definitely not looking like they did last season.
I expect the Vikings to take the win, but with the way Jahvid Best has been playing, I'd take the points with the Lions.
Predicted Score: Lions 17, Vikings 21
1. Buffalo at New England
10 of 10
Favorite: Patriots -14
Take the Points: The Bills are the worst team in the league, but the Pats proved last week that they are far from the best. We'll see if C.J. Spiller can finally live up to his potential during this game, and I think it will be closer than expected.
Final Score: Bills 16, Patriots 21
