Cleveland Browns: Josh Cribbs and James Davis May See More Time in Week 3

Daniel WolfSep 22, 2010

Right now, the Cleveland Browns were supposed to be 2-0 going into their Week 3 match-up against division rival the Baltimore Ravens.

Swap that two and zero around and you come back to reality with the Browns sitting in the basement of the AFC North with an 0-2 record.

This is nothing new for the Browns and they have been in the basement long enough to fully furnish it with carpet, a flat panel television, and a mini-bar.

All joking aside, the Browns are in the middle of a downward spiral that needs to be stopped as soon as possible.

What will help stop the losing streak is getting the ball into the hands of players who have contributed in the first two games, and to give others player on the depth chart a shot at making plays too.

According to Cleveland.com, wide receiver Brian Robiskie left practice today with a hamstring injury and he did not return to the field.

With Robiskie not lighting up the stats board, it is time to move him to the slot as a No. 3 receiver and move Josh Cribbs into the starting role opposite Mohamed Massaquoi.

Cribbs is a threat as a playmakers on offense and he will force the defense to adjust to his presence which may allow Massaquoi to get open and make more plays.

Or Cribbs could just break out as a receiver on his own.

His 65-yard touchdown catch against the Kansas City Chiefs could have been a sign that he is ready to step up his game.

Give Cribbs a shot especially with Robiskie hurting a hammy.

Also according to Cleveland.com, running back Jerome Harrison did not practice on Wednesday due to a thigh injury.

This will open opportunities for Peyton Hillis to shoulder more of the carries that Browns fans are screaming for him to get anyway since he is averaging 4.5 yards per carry. It also means that second-year running back James Davis should see some carries this weekend versus the Ravens too.

Browns fans are also starting to request that Davis get more involved since he had a stellar 2009 preseason and was the talk of the town before the 2009 regular season began.

Then he got injured and went down for the entire season.

Davis is 100 percent healthy now and he has told Cleveland media during training camp that he is stronger and faster than he has ever been in his life.

He backed his comments up in the fourth and final preseason game this year posting 119 total yards as the team's feature back after rookie Montario Hardesty went down with another knee injury early in the game.

If the Browns can finally gets Cribbs, Hillis, and Davis more touches this week and in the coming weeks, it cannot hurt them anymore then they are already hurting.

So why not?

On a roster that has Cribbs as the only real playmaker, giving young players like Davis a shot to run the rock could help the Browns find more playmakers they never knew they had.

You have to play them to find out and it looks like the Browns might start playing more of their younger players in the coming weeks.
