WWE: Wade Barrett, Other Nexus Members that Will Remain in WWE for the Long Haul
Right now, Nexus is comprised of five men: Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, and David Otunga.
These men have been getting a lot of screen time on WWE TV lately. The angle is one of WWE's more successful ventures in a long time, but one has to wonder if all five men will have long careers in the WWE.
I'll go through each person individually and give a prediction on their future with the company.
First on the list is the leader of Nexus, Wade Barrett. Barrett has shown that not only can he hang in there with the top guys in the company, but he can back it up on the mic.
When Barrett first showed up on NXT, I was unsure of how well he would do, but after he cut a promo about wind, my mind was changed.
This guy has everything the WWE wants. He has the look, size, attitude, and skill to make a name for himself in the largest wrestling company in the world.
I hope he gets a chance to shine on his own soon, because I feel he could be one of the future top heels in the company if he keeps going the way he has been.
Next is Heath Slater. He calls himself the one-man rock band, but he rocks about as much as the Goo Goo Dolls these days.
He is bland, unoriginal, and worst of all, bad on the mic. He has a couple notable wins, mainly over Chris Jericho, while he was on NXT. But that does not make up for him being boring.
I could see him doing well in a tag team, but on his own, I think he would be relegated to mid-card status at best.
David Otunga has some name recognition due to being engaged to Jennifer Hudson, and he has a great physique. But that's where his bankable qualities end.
Otunga has shown little to no improvement in the ring since joining Nexus, and I don't know how long his celebrity status will keep him afloat.
He is like Slater; he might be good in a tag team, but is kind of boring on his own.
I think if he were to improve his in-ring work, then his lack of decent mic skills might not be so bad, but right now he is one of the bottom guys in my estimation.
Michael Tarver has shown some improvement, but he is not getting any mic time, so it's hard to say how well he might do on his own.
He has a good look and his in-ring style is aggressive, which plays to his character well, but after Nexus disbands, I wouldn't be surprised if he's sent back to FCW for some more work.
If he is ever given a one-on-one match to show his ability, then I might change my opinion. But for right now, he is the one I can see maybe going back to developmental for awhile.
And finally, there is Justin Gabriel. Gabriel is pretty damn good in the ring, which makes up for his weak mic skills.
His high flying moves are incredibly well-executed, and his strength is surprising to see from a high flyer.
A few weeks back, he performed a gut wrench-style powerbomb on Cena out of nowhere, and last night he superplexed Cena from the middle rope. These are generally not moves you see a high flyer perform on a guy Cena's size.
Part of it might be that Cena likes him and wants to help put him over, but I think Gabriel is slowly becoming the A.J. Styles of the WWE.
His springboard top-rope moonsault was executed to perfection last night, and his Eddie Guerrero-like senton is always a nice throwback.
Out of the five men still in Nexus, I see Gabriel and Barrett having the brightest futures, but these things could change at anytime.
Who do you see as having the best future out of the Nexus five?
