New York Jets Hard Knocked Again: WR Braylon Edwards Arrested for DWI

Larry KornweissSep 21, 2010

New York Jets star wide receiver Braylon Edwards became the latest headache for the team early this morning after he was arrested on a drunken driving charge.

According to New York-based sports network SNY, Jets' offensive lineman D'Brickashaw Ferguson was a passenger in the vehicle.

NYPD police had originally pulled Edwards over for having overly-tinted windows.

However, when they approached the wide receiver the smell of alcohol wreaked on his breath, prompting an immediate Breathalyzer test.

Upon further review, Edwards was flagged for DWI as he blew a 0.16- exactly double the New York State limit of 0.08.

Edwards is currently being held in NYPD custody, awaiting his official arraignment later this afternoon.

According to SNY, Ferguson wasn't taken into custody.

The Jets and GM Mike Tannenbaum have released a statement on their team website regarding Edwards' arrest.

"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning. The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment.

"We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."

The first?

Back in October, Edwards was arrested for punching LeBron James' friend outside a Cleveland nightclub.

Edwards pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated assault for which he received a suspended 180-day jail sentence, was fined $1,000, and was placed on probation.

Edwards' probation officer and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will certainly be busy this afternoon as they begin investigating the facts to determine if jail and a suspension are both in order for the Jets' wide receiver.

The Jets and GM Mike Tannenbaum will also be busy as they will surely start looking for Edwards' replacement.

Can you say Laveranues Coles Part IV?

Stay tuned.
