Chael Sonnen: Innocent Until Proven Guilty.... Maybe

Just like on the night of his fight with Anderson Silva Chael has seen the fans turn another 180 degrees on him. This time however it’s not in his favor. All this after the news broke that Chael flunked his post fight urinalysis test.

This would be a justified turn though that is easy to explain why fans have tapped into the haterade cooler on Chael. This is the equivalent of telling a child Santa doesn’t exist, I know that may seem a little harsh but let’s look at it.

Chael was the guy who showed the world that Anderson Silva is mortal, that he can be beaten and that his ground game is terrible. Now all that is tarnished by his positive test for PED’s, but should we be so quick to dismiss our hero?

All we know is that he failed his post fight test for a performance enhancer, we don’t know exactly what for. I don’t think any of us should throw down the guilty verdict before we know the exact substance in question.

Now I’m sure that by now many of you are already thinking what the heck is this guy thinking? Why wouldn’t he go ahead and line him up to the firing squad. My argument is this, have you actually seen some of drugs listed as banned.

 One alone stands out to me, Ephedrine. The same drug used to clear stuffy noses is on a PED list. Also you may notice Phentermine on the list. This is a common drug used today to curb hunger, now that one I can see a little more on how it can be used as a PED. If Chael is cutting weight what better way than to cut the desire to eat.

When you are taking numerous supplements and things to help with the recovery of your muscles, I could see how it would be easy to slip up and take something that is on this list. Especially if it’s not a main ingredient on the supplement you’re taking.

The items on this list are only illegal if they cross a certain amount in your system, meaning theoretically you could take something with a banned substance and not be detected until you take too much of it. Now that is just a theory so please don’t call me an idiot for that.

Also let me take this moment to throw another disclaimer in, don’t think I’m an idiot because I don’t think Chael is taking steroids. That’s not what I said, honestly I do think Chael is on the juice. His test will come back for a masking agent to cover up his steroid usage.

Regardless though I will not take away his Superman underwear and cape until I know exactly what it is he took.
