Best Wins Against Our Enemy

dilshan muthalibSep 20, 2010

We take on our old enemy for the first time this season tomorrow in the league cup. A fixture I have always looked forward to and enjoyed more than most specially during the Wenger error when we have enjoyed unprecedented dominance over them. Every victory and any victory over them is special for me but like with everything else there are always few very special ones and the following are my favourite ones.

Alan Sunderland and Liam Brady

1978-79, three days before Christmas away to enemies who have just come back into the top flight. We might have been known as the boring boring Arsenal but not on this day when we smashed five passed them without conceding. Nothing could have made sure we had a gala Christmas while them lot had one to forget. Getting one over Christmas is always special I think, make the holiday season even more special

winning a title sweet, going unbeaten great and then winning the title at your biggest rivals home priceless. Viara and Bobby put us 2-0 up inside 40 minutes, they did come back to secure a draw through goals from Rednapp and Keane but this game is all about us securing the title and we did that with some style

This was the year after invincibles and under Martin Jol spurs had made significant progressed and were hoping this was at last will the year not only they beat us in the league at last but also finished ahead of us but neither of that happened of course. Goals from Henrry, lauren, Vieara, Freddie and Bobby made sure we won this thriller.

They arrived at the Emirates with the real belief and hope that finally they are ready to beat us and stake a claim as the top team in London only to go back disappoint. By half time they looked shocked and out of ideas as Cesc and RVP cut through them at will with Cesc scoring a wonder goal on the process..it was catch us if you can football from the mighty Arsenal

They took the lead and for almost an hour it looked as finaly this might be the day when the record a win over us but it all changed in the second half. Adebayor scored two and Cesc scored one as we scored three quick goals and made sure that their wait for a win goes on for bit longer. It was also the game that launched Adebayor is a top striker and he went on to enjoy great sucess against spurs for Arsenal.
