Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Who to Pick Up in Week 3

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballSep 20, 2010

As a fantasy football owner, it’s very easy to overreact to a player’s performance in Week 2 and be ready to totally revamp your roster based on a few disappointing or out-of-nowhere terrific performances.

While we generally recommend a “wait-and-see it’s only Week 2” approach, a shrewd add after the season’s first two weeks can help your fantasy team get back on track.

Even if the player (or players) you add doesn’t turn out to be a long-term solution, he might have enough juice to help you get over your lineup woes.

On that note, here are the Bruno Boys’ recommended “Fantasy Football Waiver Wire—Pick Them Ups” for the week ahead.

QUARTERBACKS: PICK THEM UP

Sam Bradford (St. Louis Rams)

Bradford went 14-of-25 for 167 yards against the Oakland Raiders in Week 2 along with two touchdowns and one interception. He didn’t throw the ball as much as he did in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, when he had 55 attempts, but he threw only one interception after throwing three in his NFL debut.

Bradford gets a matchup with the Washington Redskins in Week 3, Seattle Seahawks in Week 4, and Detroit Lions the following week. All three defenses have struggled against the pass, and this should allow the rookie quarterback to continue to mature during the young season. Plus, Bradford has seven more games against a lackluster NFC West division.

Bradford has impressed right out of the gate and is no longer considered waiver wire fodder. Grab him as your QB2, and if the matchup is right, feel confident playing the signal caller out of Oklahoma.

Quarterbacks Watch List: Mark Sanchez (New York Jets), Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Seneca Wallace (Cleveland Browns), Shaun Hill (Detroit Lions), Bruce Gradkowski (Oakland Raiders)

RUNNING BACKS: PICK THEM UP

Jason Snelling (Atlanta Falcons)

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner left Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a groin issue, which opened the door for Snelling to play. He had 24 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns along with five catches for 57 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Turner missed five games and a significant portion of two others last season with an ankle injury, so it’s hard to ignore that he has another injury if you spent a fairly high draft pick on him this year expecting a rebound.

Snelling was productive last season when he got the opportunity to play, as he had 613 rushing yards (4.3 yards per carry) while also catching 30 passes in his 14 games played.

Reports have suggested Turner could have returned to the game in Week 2, which bodes well for his status for Week 3 barring any setbacks this week, but Snelling is a worthy addition to your fantasy team if you own Turner.
