WWE Night of Champions Results: What’s Next for Sheamus, Nexus and The Miz

Thomas GaliciaSep 19, 2010

Randy Orton is the WWE Champion.

Kane somehow took out the phenom to retain.

Daniel Bryan is the new United States Champion.

Team Lay-Cool seems to still be together.

So much happened at Night of Champions, but what does it mean for the ones that didn't leave Chicago victorious, and where will they go heading into Hell In A Cell?

Big Show and CM Punk

1 of 10

I didn't care enough about this match to watch it, let alone have an opinion on it.

These two will continue their feud until Survivor Series. I've reached my two sentence quota on this feud.

Kofi Kingston

2 of 10

Despite the no disqualification stipulation where Kofi would win the title if Ziggler got disqualified, Vickie still helped Ziggy retain the title.

As for Kofi, I doubt he'll make a push towards Main Event status very quickly. He'll continue to feud with Ziggler until Survivor Series with the two both being a part of Team Smackdown at Bragging Rights. I doubt the Intercontinental Title will be up for grabs at Hell In A Cell.

Melina

3 of 10

I was pretty shocked when Michelle McCool (with help from Layla of course) unified the Women's and Diva's championship.

Now we have two Diva feuds that can either go on concurrently or consecutively.

Melina is going to want the titles back and will definitely be in the mix as Team Lay-Cool's adversary throughout the coming weeks.

As for Team Lay-Cool, a split was teased on Friday Night Smackdown last week, but they came together to win the title on Sunday. A split still seems very imminent though and could end up carrying the Diva's division for the rest of the year.

The Hart Dynasty

4 of 10

Shocking was the fact that The Hart Dynasty lost the WWE Tag Team championships. Even more shocking was that The Uso's didn't wind up with it.

I hated this match, they should've just had The Usos win the titles cleanly from the Hart Dynasty and get over.

But instead WWE fell into an old habit, having a new and seemingly randomly slapped together tag team win the title as opposed to having an established tag team win it all.

I like Dashing Cody Rhodes, not so much Drew McIntyre, but as a tag team, I'm not impressed, sorry.

Expect the Harts to stay in the hunt, I wish I could say the same for the Uso's but I can't.

Undertaker

5 of 10

I wasn't so shocked to see Kane walk away with the title. I actually expected it.

This rivalry will continue to dominate Smackdown. Unless Undertaker is definitely injured (again) it will continue until Hell In A Cell, possibly leading up to Wrestlemania.

Chris Jericho

Was it really Jericho's final match? Is he really going out getting eliminated in an elimination match a good 20 minutes before everyone else does?

Not a chance. He has a DVD coming out in a few weeks.

Yes we know his contract status with the WWE, but I see him remaining there until at least Survivor Series, possibly with one last face turn until he's gone.

Edge

7 of 10

The Ultimate Opportunist didn't take this opportunity and found himself on the wrong end of an RKO.

But he's on his way back to Smackdown, which is his show, as soon as it moves to SyFy, where as usual he'll be right in the Main Event mix for the World Heavyweight Championship.

John Cena/Wade Barrett/Nexus

Any surprise that Cena's chances at regaining the WWE title were thwarted by Nexus?

Barrett was very impressive during the match, especially by eliminating Cena, thus ensuring that Nexus vs. Cena will be a rivalry that will continue all the way to where it began, in Miami, at Survivor Series.

Sheamus

9 of 10

Once again Sheamus had a very good reign as Double Double E Champion. He will have others, but not for at least a good three to four months, but does he have a lot on his plate or what?

First the blow off match to his rivalry with Randy Orton at Hell In A Cell, which should be a brutal match up.

Then there's The Game whenever he's ready to return. Sheamus might not have the gold, but he'll be a high profile main eventer for quite a while to come.

The Miz

10 of 10

I placed him last because I really expected him to be the X-Factor and leave Chicago with the WWE Championship.

But WWE decided to let this Sheamus vs. Orton feud last at least until Hell In A Cell, which is the perfect type of match for the two.

As for The Miz, he looked like he was ready to start crying after losing to Daniel Bryan. The fact that The Miz didn't cash in the briefcase tonight in my eyes actually diminished his character and made him look like what we've thought he was, "all talk, no action."

Look at it this way, say Edge held both the Intercontinental Championship and The Money In The Bank back in 2005, and he defended the IC title against Matt Hardy at Survivor Series and lost. Would Edge cry about it? Would he act all devestated?

Of course he wouldn't, Edge would instead wait until the WWE Championship match between John Cena and Triple H ended, then come out and cash the briefcase (I know that's not how it happened but just stay with me on this.)

The Miz looked like he was ready to be taken seriously, like a man to be reckoned with. But by crying after losing to Daniel Bryan, followed by the lack of his appearance at the end of the event, the WWE made Miz look like he punked out, and it seems like they might just take the briefcase away from him too.

Now I could see a Daniel Bryan-Miz rematch at Hell In A Cell, however for the next month, can we not have Miz crying over losing the US title to Bryan? That would just look really stupid, especially considering that he has a contract that virtually guarantees him the WWE Championship whenever he wants it!
