A.J. Styles, Most Misused Wrestler Of All Time?

Ian MaloneSep 18, 2010

This Thursday's house show featured A.J. Styles losing to Jeff Jarrett in the opening match.

That is correct. PWI's top wrestler lost in the opening match to No. 55, which I view as complete b.s. since Jarrett's ranking was higher than Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin, Sting, Hernandez, and MVP to name a few.

TNA's booking stands with Jimmy Hoffa and death as life's biggest mysteries. It literally makes no sense.

One of professional wrestling's biggest assets holds a fake title and is currently in a program with Tommy Dreamer, a fat old man who constantly whines about a company that paid his salary for nearly a decade even though his talents were far below many wrestlers who WWE showed the door.

It's baffling, it really is. A.J. Styles is a man who can really make money for the company. Yet his push seemed to end when he dropped the TNA title on free television to Rob Van Dam.

When A.J. first made the TV title, he promised to defend it each week. That hasn't really been the case, though I'm not surprised. When has TNA ever lived up to something it promised?

My main issue with TNA and A.J. Styles lies with Bound for Glory. Bound for Glory is TNA's biggest PPV and one of the few that actually attracts buys for the company.

It doesn't make the company much money since road costs are pretty bad, but it still is extremely important to TNA's success. But A.J. doesn't really seem to be important for BFG. And he should be.

Bound for Glory's main event features Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, and Mr. Anderson for the title. Hard to argue with that as all three are very talented and haven't spend large amounts of time chasing the titles. TNA has succeed in making me excited for BFG's main event.

But A.J. seems to be an afterthought. He isn't even on the promotional poster even though Jeff "Was Never Main Event" Jarrett is.

A match featuring Sting and Kevin Nash may have made money in the 90s, but that was a very long time ago.

A.J. will probably be booked into some throwaway match with the EV 2.0 faction which is very sad. A.J. should be in a match that showcases why he is No. 1, not wasting his time with a irrelevant washed up faction.

TNA doesn't seem to think so, though.
