Friday Night Thoughts 09/17/2010

Eric StrellerSep 17, 2010

A lot has been going on in the sports world the last few days, so I saw it fitting to throw out some thoughts on some of the big issues.

  • Joe Torre Stepping Down, Don Mattingly To Take Over
    • It’s obvious that Torre isn’t liking the way things are going in LA. Don’t think for one second that he doesn’t have something else in mind though. Torre will probably be managing a big market team next season. At most, he’s only out for one year, but even that is a long shot. The guy’s got a lot left in the tank. I’m also interested to see how Mattingly does. I’m glad he’s getting a chance.
  • Michael Vick Gets First Start in 4 Years
    • Vick might take a slight step back from his performance last week, but he’s playing the Lions and there will be plenty of opportunity to exploit their defense, especially through the air. Vick has been adamant about telling the media and trying to prove that he can be a pass first quarterback. This is the perfect game for him to make that known.
  • Reggie Bush Hands In Heisman
    • Bush not admitting he’s guilty, he’s just wanting to put this behind him… GTFO. He knew that he was going to be forced to give it back, so why not try to look like the good guy? Problem is, I’ve never known anyone to volunteer to give up an award when they were innoncent. It would be like Barry Bonds saying he’s giving back an MVP for being accused of doing steroids, but standing firm that he didn’t do anything wrong. Bush is going to give back the most prestige award in college football for being accused of something? It doesn’t add up.
  • Floyd Mayweather Goes to Jail
    • Mayweather is being charged with multiple felonies for an incident that stemmed from baby mamma drama. Supposedly he threatened to kill her, while their son watched him hit and kick his mother. What the hell is this guy thinking? I would root for him against Manny Pacquiao, and I seem to be one of the few, but come on man. Use your money to buy some common sense.
  • Derek Jeter is Called a Cheater
    • You’ve probably read my article and know my true feelings on this, but it’s getting a little old. Jeter’s quote today was priceless as he called this entire media outcry “comical.” This is what Jeter had to say on Friday.  ”I had nothing to do with the call. The umpire called it from the get-go. I didn’t do it. I didn’t tell myself to go to first base. I didn’t make the call. He didn’t ask me did it hit you and I said, ‘Yeah, it hit me please let me go to first base.’ It’s comical to me that this is really getting this much attention.”
