Dallas Cowboys Already In Must Win Situation Against the Chicago Bears

James BrownSep 17, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys will try to forget a horrible star to the season when they host the Chicago Bears this weekend. The Cowboys are expected to rebound as evident by the latest NFL odds by Bet Mania. The Cowboys are listed as nine point favorites and the total is set at 40.

Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys opened the season with a thud in a Sunday night game against the Washington Redskins. The team turned over the ball for a crucial touchdown right before the half and then committed a penalty that erased the game winning score. They were sloppy, failed to execute in almost every aspect of the game. In short, they gave the game away to a division rival. The Boys are hoping that some home cooking will change their misfortunes.

Chicago Bears: The Bears started the season with a win and some controversy. With seconds to go in the game against the Detroit Lions, wide receiver Calvin Johnson caught the apparent game winning touchdown in the end zone, fell to the ground and rolled over, dropping the ball. The catch was ruled incomplete allowing the Bears to hold onto the victory. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz introduced the new offense and despite turnovers, the Bears put up some gaudy numbers. Jay Cutler threw for nearly 400 yards and running back Matt Forte revitalized his game with a great receiving performance. Putting up those kind of numbers against the Lions is one thing, now they will have to see if they can do it against the Cowboys on the road.

Game Time Prediction: The heat is on in Dallas. The Cowboys only have one loss, but it was how they lost the game that resonates with the team and the fan base. They gave the game away that they were expected to win. The only way to cure that pain is to make sure they win this week against another team they are supposed to beat.

The edge goes to the Cowboys for the home field advantage as well as several mismatches all over the field. The Cowboy wide receivers match up well against the defensive secondary of the Bears. Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant looked decent in game one and he should be able to get into the end zone in this game.

The Bears have been hard pressed to put together back to back impressive performances. They are  7-19-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last 28 games following a win and they are 1-5 ATS in the last six road games .The Bears are 1-5 ATS off division win and the Cowboys are 35-18 ATS after scoring 3 points or less in the first half last game. The Cowboys need a big win and they get it this weekend.

Final: Cowboys 38, Bears 27
