Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Well, at least that is what the writing on the wall looks like.
Delhomme has been seen walking around practice wearing a boot, he has not participated in practices all week, and he hasn't even been out on the practice fields with the rest of the team according to sources from this morning's football forum at The Plain Dealer.
So Wallace is in and will start for the Browns unless some mutant healing ability kicks in for Delhomme and he can get healthy enough to start.
Doubtful.
But do not fear Browns fans, only three years ago the Browns had to start their second quarterback in the second game of the regular season too.
In 2007, those were different circumstances since then-starter Charlie Frye got his bell rung by the Pittsburgh Steelers defense and led to Derek Anderson starting in game two.
That led to a complete 180-degree turnaround and the Browns nearly made the playoffs and ended the season with a record of 10-6, which is still their best record since their rebirth.
Come back to the present, and once again the Browns are starting a new quarterback in week two.
Wallace has never been known as your prototype for a starting quarterback, but he is a veteran and most Browns fans though he was going to be the starter when the Browns traded for him before acquiring Delhomme.
Now is Wallace's chance to shine and step up to the plate.
There has been no better time in his career to take the reigns of an NFL team as the starting quarterback and run away as the clear-cut starter until now.
In Seattle he was stuck behind Matt Hasselbeck and unless there was an injury, there was no chance of Wallace taking control.
But in Cleveland it is a different story, since the fans are dying to find a quarterback who can step in and take complete control and lead the team to victory while giving the city a sense of stability at the quarterback position that they have not had since Bernie Kosar.
Can Wallace step into this role?
There is a chance that Wallace can supersede Delhomme, but he will have to really blow up the Chiefs this weekend with a 3-4 touchdown performance and a Browns win to do that.
Anything is possible and at least it should be entertaining watching Wallace since he is so mobile and Browns fans have never been treated to a highly mobile quarterback in a very, very long time.
