NFL Picks Week 2: Ten Prop Bets For Vegas To Use This Weekend
Perhaps a more interesting aspect to sports betting, rather than simple spreads, over/unders, money lines and teasers, are the prop bets.
Instead of rooting for teams, the intrigue of clutching at the prospects of winning a prop bet produces a warm feeling instead.
How many tackles, how many yards, who will throw an INT first, how many sacks will he get? These merely scrape the surface of weekly NFL prop bets.
Here are some additional ones to toss around with your friends.
Who Will Have More Carries?
1 of 10
The trio of running backs in Dallas presents a huge challenge for both the Cowboys and the opposition.
Usage of the three could change defensive gameplans and maneuvers, though history has shown that not one of them dominate as far as harnessing the bulk of the team's carries.
It's not a typical outcome or production wager.
Rather, simply consider this: Who will tote the rock the most?
Which Side Will Rush For More?
2 of 10
A Sunday afternoon contest between the Vikings and the Dolphins will pit another trio of running backs with immense talent.
Which will eat up more yards: the two-headed monster in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown or the one-headed leviathan in Adrian Peterson?
After all, the result of the game could come actually come down to which offensive unit produces most yards on the ground.
Who Scores a Touchdown First?
3 of 10
The Kansas City Chiefs can now throw multiple explosive looks at opposing defenses and special teams.
Jamaal Charles is no newcomer to the scene of big plays, but rookie Dexter McCluster showed his talent on a national stage, taking a kickoff back for six on Monday night against the Chargers.
Charles had his own super 56-yard touchdown scamper.
Either of the two are prime for a breakaway score, but who will top the other by hitting the end zone first?
Who Will Have More All-Purpose Yards?
4 of 10
In a battle of scrambling quarterbacks, Denis Dixon and the Steelers will travel to Nashville to take on Vince Young and the Titans--a matchup of physical football teams with dual-threats under center.
Dixon accounted for 240 total yards last week against Atlanta, while Young totaled 184 yards from scrimmage his game versus Oakland, but left most of the dirty work for rushing champ Chris Johnson.
This contest will test both quarterbacks in different ways: Dixon a true road test against a fierce AFC rival, and Young's focus and demeanor against a stout Steelers defense.
Which number 10 will have the more productive day?
Which Brother Will Throw For More Touchdowns?
5 of 10
It's the Manning Bowl, the first since 2006 to open the season.
Both Mannings threw three touchdowns in their first games of the 2010 season, but Eli got to notch the first win of the year for his Giants while Peyton fell short in a loss to the Texans.
Peyton's veteran weapons may be better, but Eli has shown he doesn't need the wiry old-timers to cushion his stats.
It will be a most interesting Sunday night showdown at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Which Punishing Tailback Will Gain More Yards From Scrimmage?
6 of 10
Sunday afternoon's match between two lowly division bottom feeders, the Rams and the Raiders, pits a couple of punishers at running back.
Second year man out of Arkansas Darren McFadden leads his team in both rushing and receiving yards, but his counterpart on the opposing team--Steven Jackson--is known to eat up yards on the ground in the running and passing attacks.
Will the the six-year veteran get the edge? Or will youth play a moderate role in a challenge match between a mainstay producer and an up and coming all-purpose back?
Which Post-30 Running Back Will Have The Last Laugh?
7 of 10
In the AFC East, the rumblings and grumblings between the Jets and Patriots have made news time and time again, but on Sunday both squads will get to show it on the field.
Despite the youth from Shonn Greene at tailback for the Jets, both teams boast running backs over 30. LaDanian Tomlinson, 31, for the Jets and Fred Taylor, 34, for the Pats.
The common myth that running backs take a serious decline after reaching 30 is both applicable and busted. Taylor is still a productive pounder even at his age, and LT showed a nice pip in his proverbial step against the Ravens.
Taylor rushed for 71 yards, while Tomlinson accumulated 62 yards of his own.
Greene was hardly a noticeable in the box score, so maybe the veteran running backs will have most of the say in the rushing game.
Which Young Quaterback Will Throw an Interception First?
8 of 10
The great thing about young quarterbacks in the NFL is that more than likely, they will throw interceptions.
In an NFC South contest between the Buccaneers and the Panthers, Josh Freeman, Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore combine to have less than five seasons of professional experience, and that is reaching.
Moore threw three picks last weekend and Freeman had one of his own. Clausen is a rookie who will definitely make the rookie mistakes if he sees the field.
You may never be so happy to see someone throw an interception.
How Many Total Passing Yards Will Shaun Hill Have?
9 of 10
Straight from Bodog.com, how will Shaun Hill fair in his first game as the Lions' signal-caller?
The season looked bright for Detroit under second year quarterback Matt Stafford, but a shoulder injury will keep him off the field for a few weeks.
In the mean time, former 49ers quarterback will make the start for the seemingly doomed Lions.
The over/under for Hill's total passing yards is 195.5.
Optimistic? Perhaps. Fortunately the Lions still have Calvin Johnson.
What Will Tim Tebow Do First?
10 of 10
Finally, we can talk about Tim Tebow.
He saw the field last week, not as a quarterback, but as a ball carrier, rushing twice for two yards.
What will happen this time? All the more reason to have every eye on the Florida product.
Will he get some carries right off the bat? Will he split out wide as a receiver? Or, gasp, will he actually throw a pass in the NFL?
What will come first? The Tebow Tracker is up and running.
