Point Guard Brandon Jennings Sparks Controversy
Brandon Jennings had some interesting things to say about why he was left off the Team USA basketball roster.
Check that, Jennings didnโt even get an invite to try out for the team, which baffles my mind. He was the best player on a Milwaukee Bucks squad who made the playoffs.
Check out what Jennings said.
โItโs not my call. Thatโs on them,โ Jennings told Yahoo! Sports. โBut if you want to get technical about it and you really want to look at it, half of the guys there are Nike guys. Iโm not saying itโs a Nike thing, but Nike is kind of running a lot of things right now. To have a guy like myself on the USA team thatโs flashy and really outgoing, you donโt want Under Armour to get all that [publicity].
The fact that a USA roster could be chosen based on sponsorships is unpatriotic. These players are out in the middle of Turkey representing us, Americans. The best of the best should be participating.
I love people like Jennings, who are real and do their own thing. Of course Jennings famously flipped the finger to the University of Arizona after eligibility issues and played one season in Italy nbefore being drafted with the tenth pick in 2009.
Jennings has the confidence and star player capabilities to deliver on his promise of winning Milwaukee the Central division.
The Milwaukee Brewers have had a lackluster campaign and last season โFear the Deerโ became a popular slogan all throughout Wisconsin.
The normally quiet Bucks actually added some nice pieces to surround BJ.
They re-signed John Salmonsโone of the most underrated slashers in the NBAโand traded for Corey Maggette, Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Jon Brockman.
Add those guards with a healthy Andrew Bogut, serviceable journeyman Drew Gooden, and athletic rookie power forward Larry Sanders. Something tells me the Bucks have something brewing in the kitchen. ย
Iโll leave you with a quote from Brandon Jennings that I think represents what this website is all about:
โIโm just telling you how it is.โ
