WWE Night Of Champions 2010: Ten Ways to Ruin The Experience!

Chris FreemanSep 15, 2010

It's PPV time for the WWE! Each and every month, the WWE delivers us a PPV event in which we get to see title changes, feuds culminating, and plenty of interesting moments!

For the past few months, every time I saw a PPV event, the final card would get me pumped and ready to spend $54.99 to see it! Even though each PPV have featured a match or two that I didn't really want to see, they have always had those one or two matches that made it worth it. Summerslam featured Team WWE vs The Nexus, featuring Daniel Bryan. Money in the Bank featured the Miz winning the MITB briefcase. And Fatal Four-Way, well, wasn't the best. But it still had decent matches.

Night of Champions 2010 is no different than these. I am as excited as ever to watch NOC on Sunday! At this point, there's nothing that can really go wrong with this event! The card is booked well (despite the Dolph vs Kofi, 80th rematch) and we are sure to see some entertaining matches!

However, despite this being an all around great card, there are still a few things I can think of that could possible bring the experience down, possibly transforming it from a good PPV, to a bad PPV...

P.S. Trust me, it was hard to think of anything that could go wrong, but after some thought, these possibilities just plagued my thoughts...

Making Daniel Bryan Vs The Miz Too Short

1 of 11

The first thing that popped in my head is also the thing that'll KILL this PPV for me! The Miz and Daniel Bryan have had one of the most interesting feuds in recent years! Things have been building up since the beginning of NXT season 1 back in February and seem to be coming to a head at Night of Champions! The Miz has improved greatly since that time and Daniel Bryan has gotten majorly over with the fans! This match has the potential to steal the show. Even JR said so, so it has to be true!

However, they need a decent amount of time to go at it. Five or six minutes just won't cut it. They'll need at least 10 minutes in order to truly show their stuff. Imagine we are watching this match, its looking pretty good and all of a sudden, its over. That would be so disappointing. We have to see these guys tear each other apart! It would do wonders for both men and having one or the other win quickly just wouldn't do it for me. Whether WWE wants to recognize it or not, this is a great feud. Great feuds always lead to great matches! Its a simple formula. Its an effective formula.

Bottom line: Give these guys time to shine!!!

CM Punk Loses to The Big Show

2 of 11
Obviously, Punk is the better man
Obviously, Punk is the better man

CM Punk and Big Show have had an interesting feud thus far...just kidding, its been utter trash. Why is CM Punk, one of the most talented individuals on Smackdown and in the WWE for that matter, losing cleanly to the Big Show in HANDICAP matches!? The only logical explanation for this is that they want to end the Straight Edge Society or just want Show to look strong against the likes of Luke Gallows and Joey Mercury. Most people have been saying, "How's CM Punk supposed to beat Big Show when 3 guys couldn't!?" Well, my response to that is simple: Gallows and Mercury are holding Punk back! Punk has sacrificed a lot of credibility to attempt to build up the SES, but unfortunately, its just not meant to be. They could've been a very dominant force in the WWE, but unfortunately, CM Punk was put in a feud with Rey Mysterio that ended with him getting his head shaved. Now, he can only win agaisnt mid-carders.

Back to the NOC match. CM Punk and Big Show seem to be going at it one more time at NOC. While this isn't a title match, it needs to happen. CM Punk MUST defeat the Big Show and put this silly feud to rest. He needs to win decisively so that he looks strong and builds himself back up! If he loses clean against Show, then its over for him. There is no recovering from that. If you thought losing to Big Show 3 on 1 was bad, just wait and see how badly this will effect him.

Bottom line: Let Punk Win!!!

The LumberJills

3 of 11

This is only the first of many things that could go wrong for this match.

Now, as we all know, the WWE has decided to unify the Divas and Women's titles. Now, the two champions in this match are Divas Champ Melina and Co-Women's champ LayCool. These two (three) represent what little hope is left for the Divas division. I'd say it was a smart move to put them in a match together. However, in an effort to make the remaining Divas feel important, they made it a LumberJill match. Well this is okay depending on one thing: Make sure the LumberJills don't have too much of a focus in the match.

What I mean by that is that I don't want to see the match decided because of some sort of interference during the match. Now I realize that it is a LumberJack match and an attack from them on the competitors is to be expected. I'm okay with that. However, if it seems the match is going to go one way and then one of the LumberJills jump the ropes and prevent that outcome, then the match will be ruined for me.

Dolph Ziggler Loses to Kofi Kingston

4 of 11

If you have watched Smackdown or WWE at all in the past month or so, then you've probably seen Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler go at it at least once by now. For the most part, its getting stale. Kofi and Dolph are too talented to be doing his week in and week out. Its time for a change. And the best way for this change is to see Ziggler walk out of NOC as the champ. We should be guaranteed to see him win fairly, as he'll lose his title if he's DQ'd or counted out.

However, we could just as easily see Dolph lose to Kofi. This would be bad for both men. Ziggler needs the title right now. Ever since he won it from Kofi, he hasn't been able to keep it legitimately. Its like Sheamus and Swagger. He looks weak.

Kofi doesn't need the title. This newfound aggression we see in Kofi could be a sign. We see Kofi getting put in an unsanctioned match against Kane and guess what? He doesn't back down. He even stated that he wasn't afraid of Kane! That's gutsy. He could easily be put into the World Title picture once Kane and Taker are done feuding. Who else do they have that could challenge for the title? CM Punk and Jack Swagger. Thats it. Both of those guys are heels. They need a new FACE to win the title (though seeing Swagger or Punk with the title would be just as good). But Kofi can't do that if he's got the Intercontinental title.

Let Dolph win....he needs it. Kofi needs it. EVERYONE NEEDS IT!

One last thing: If Kofi wins, guess what? Ziggler gets a rematch. Yeah...another Kofi vs Dolph match. No thanks.

Using The Divas Title As The Main Title

5 of 11

You remember the phrase "Championship Gold?" WWE doesn't.

When I first saw the Divas title, I thought about how degrading it was! First, it has a butterfly on it, which makes whoever holds the title seem delicate. Second, its silver and pink! I mean, its almost like the WWE is flat out telling the Divas that they aren't as worthwhile as the Men's division! Sure the Women's Championship doesn't look too impressive, but at least its Gold! It at least looks valuable (as titles should). The Divas title looks cheap and stupid.

The way the WWE is going, we most likely won't see either the Divas or Women's titles for too much longer. They could do away with both titles and bring in a new championship.

However, on WWE.com, one of their current polls ask "Which title would you like to see carried after the Divas and Women's titles are unified?" Well I voted just to see and a shocking 58% said the Divas title should be carried! I think that things ugly. It looks worthless! To me, using the Divas title over the Women's title is a way for the WWE to tell the Divas that they don't care about them anymore.

Not to mention the history of the Women's title. We have seen many great Divas hold that title: Trish Stratus, Lita, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Melina, Michelle McCool.

And if you don't believe this is an issue, well just look at the picture for 5 minutes. I guarantee you that you'll hate it as much as I do.

Not Booking The Hart Dynasty For a Match **Possible Smackdown SPOILER**

6 of 11
One of the best tag teams in a while. Too bad they don't defend their titles.
One of the best tag teams in a while. Too bad they don't defend their titles.

Speaking of stupid looking titles, we are currently without a match for the WWE Tag Titles. Ever since the Hart Dynasty won the titles back in April, the Tag Titles have been losing their prestige. They've had about 3 titles defenses in their 5 month run as champs. They faced Chris Jericho and The Miz once, and the Usos twice.

Think about when The Miz and Big Show were champs. They faced the Straight Edge Society, DX, Cryme Tyme, MVP and Mark Henry, John Morrison and R-Truth, and even John Cena and Batista! Their run as tag team champs wasn't too long either! Now look at the tag team division: The Hart Dynasty, The Usos, Santino and Kozlov, and the teased tag team of Drew McIntyre and "Dashing" Cody Rhodes are the only noticable tag teams. However, they could still find a way to make a match out of this.

Smackdown SPOILER ALERT!!!!

However, they still have yet to announce a match at Night of Champions. They had the Hart Dynasty face Drew and Cody on Smackdown this week, but they still didn't make it official. Now, considering this a PPV that boasts being a night where "EVERY CHAMPIONSHIP IS ON THE LINE!" this looks bad. They could easily just add it to the card at the last second.

So please WWE, if you are listening: JUST MAKE THE MATCH ALREADY!!!

Undertaker Defeats Kane

7 of 11

Ever since the Undertaker was first put into a "vegetative state," we all knew that it was Kane who did it. However, none of us expected Kane to win the Money in the Bank ladder match or for Kane to cash it in just one hour later! It was one of those moments where the WWE threw us a curveball.

At Summerslam, we finally saw the return of the Deadman, looking very weak since his recent attack. It was revealed that Kane was his attacker and the story instantly died. Or did it? Almost instantly, my interest in this feud reignited as I watched Kane overpower his brother and lay him out! After that moment, we watched as Kane proved to be stronger than the Undertaker. For the first time, Kane was the dominant one.

We all knew at that point that Kane and Undertaker would meet in a match at NOC. Sure enough, Kane claimed on Smackdown a few weeks back that he would end the Undertaker at NOC. The Undertaker has tried to convince us that he is still the Deadman and that the WWE is "still his yard." However, we are unsure of this. And I believe the Undertaker may be unsure of himself as well.

So now that you're up to speed, let's get down to it. KANE MUST WIN! The only reason we have put up with this storyline is because Kane is finally on top. Its new! Its interesting! Its fresh! The only way it could possibly go wrong is to have the Undertaker win at NOC!

Hell in a Cell is only two weeks from NOC. If you want Undertaker to win, do it there!

Six Pack Challenge: Nexus Problems

8 of 11

This year, WWE proved two things to me:

1. They are willing to give the WWE/World Title to newer/younger guys.

2. They are not willing to make said newer/younger guys look legit.

Now, I obviously don't have to explain this. We saw two newer/younger guys this year as champion. Jack Swagger and Sheamus, two guys who may be the future of the company. However, Jack Swagger only won cleanly as champion 1 time (surprisingly against Randy Orton). Other than that, he retained by DQ against the Big Show and then lost to Rey "I won't resign if I don't get a title" Mysterio. He followed the classic formula of MITB winners. He cashed in on a beaten opponent and was made to look lucky. Sheamus is no different. He won the title at Fatal Four Way and since then has not retained his title cleanly.

You may be asking, "What does this have to do with the Nexus?" Well, it has everything to do with them.

Recently, Wade Barrett, the leader of this group of rookies, has been given his guaranteed title shot he gets after winning NXT. He has been with the company since February and has a very bright future with the WWE. NOC could be his night to cement his place as a main eventer. However, this should only occur by one method: Make Barrrett win cleanly. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that he should dominate whoever his last opponent is, but for God's sake, DO NOT HAVE THE NEXUS INTERFERE! It would make him seem lucky. That is not good for someone that you apparantly want to be the top heel of Raw. Sure, with so many guys leaving/possibly leaving, the WWE needs some new guys to step in and fill the main event, but they need CREDIBLE CHAMPIONS! Can you say that with me WWE? CREDIBLE. CHAMPIONS! There you go.

Sheamus Retains Unfairly...Again.

9 of 11

I've pretty much already covered this in the last slide, but I'll say it again:

IF SHEAMUS WINS, HE CAN'T WIN THROUGH DIRTY METHODS!

Now, as we all know, it'll be hard for him to do so. As of recently, the 6 pack challenge is now a 6 pack elimination. Now, while that usually means that the winner will have earned it, there are still a few ways to make Sheamus look lucky.

For example, let's say the last two guys in are Sheamus and Cena. Having been eliminated early in the match, Wade Barrett comes back out with the Nexus and they attack Cena as Cena was the one who eliminated Barrett. Seeing this opportunity, Sheamus gets the pin and wins.

Now, while that finish seems a little too detailed, you see where I'm getting at. Sheamus could really use the boost right now, so a clean victory in this match is a must for him!

DO NOT Let The Miz Cash In His MITB Contract!

10 of 11
Miz-ter Money in the Bank. Which should stay that way for a little while longer.
Miz-ter Money in the Bank. Which should stay that way for a little while longer.

I'm not gonna lie: I am a huge fan of the Miz. He is probably my favorite superstar on the WWE right now, besides CM Punk. I was absolutely ecstatic when he won MITB. I was even more excited to see him facing Randy Orton and John Cena and coming very close to victory on both accounts.

However, I feel that he should not cash in his MITB briefcase at NOC. There are a few reasons behind this seemingly very unpopular decision:

1. He'll just be made to look lucky/weak.

Now, this can be said about most MITB winners. Usually, they come in and cash in on a beaten opponent. This has usually been the way we see a cash in, ever since Edge first did so back in 2006. Now, Kane has proven that you don't have to seem lucky when you win this way. He has had a very good run with the title so far and may continue to do so if (ahem, when) he wins at NOC. While the Miz could still do this, it wouldn't work too well. He has a match against Daniel Bryan at NOC. Imagine losing his US title earlier in the night and then winning the WWE title later on in the SAME night. He'll begin his first title run look very weak. Its not to say that he couldn't win this way and then win at Hell in a Cell and Bragging Rights, but its not a good start.

2. The Six Pack Challenge is Heel Heavy.

What do Sheamus, Edge, Wade Barrett, and Chris Jericho have in common? They are all heel. Last time I checked, so was the Miz. Currently, there's a 33% chance that a face will win the match and a 66% chance that a heel would do so. Having The Miz cash in on a face would not be good. As I said before, there are two weeks in between NOC and Hell in a Cell. That is not enough time to get Miz over as a face and it certainly isn't enough time to get Wade Barrett or Sheamus over as faces either. In fact, it would basically be impossible to get Barrett or Sheamus over as faces at this point in time. Barrett is the leader of the infamous Nexus and Sheamus is insulting the crowd on a regular basis. The Miz can one day be a very, very good face. But he needs to be a heel during his first title reign!

3. Don't Let Him Cash in On Orton.

Currently, Orton is being built up to be the face of the WWE. He continues to dominate week in and week out and is on his way to being on top! Having him win the title just to lose it a few moments later does nothing to help this. And it obviously doesn't help the Miz because he'd just lose the title 2 weeks later at Hell in a Cell. Orton needs to keep gaining a lot of momentum and then pick up the title at Wrestlemania. Sure its a long wait, but it will be well worth it.

4. John Cena Won't Win

I'm willing to bet every dime that I have that John Cena won't win at NOC. While he may look like the underdog going into NOC (a role he plays very well), look at the facts. Most of Cena's matches have been in the middle of the night. He had a match against The Miz that occured in the middle of Raw a few week back, then followed that with a match against Justin Gabriel a couple weeks later that again occurred during the middle of Raw. There has been absolutely no buildup on John Cena's part, where usually we see an almost depressed Cena deliver a rousing speech about how he "CAN DO THIS!" It only means one thing: Cena won't win. I'm sorry but he won't and thats that.

Conclusion

11 of 11

So there you have it. Night of Champions should be a great PPV, as long as most of the things on this list don't happen.

Like I said, a few things are up in the air and could still be good depending on how things turn out.

Feel free to leave comments letting me know what you think about my opinions.

For now, its just a waiting game until Sunday. Thank you for reading!
