Packer Gregg Jennings Week 1 TD Catch Process Is Ruled Complete Wednesday
The NFL rule's committee announced Wednesday, September 15 at 8 AM EST that Greg Jennings process of the catch in the end zone against Philadelphia on Sunday has been completed. The touchdown will stand and so will the Packer victory over the Eagles.
"We declare that Mr. Jennings has completed the process of the catch and the Packers will be rewarded with 6 points and the extra point," said newly appointed Director of Final Decisions Allan Feurts. The new process of the process rule of a catch is still being worked by the league, but officials had expressed hope to have all these catches completed on Wednesdays, Mr. Fuerts further explained.

All other touchdown catches for week one are still under review. Since there we 29 last week, it seems unlikely the league will be able to determine if the other 28 catches have completed the process all today. What sped up the Jennings's decision was that he wasn't tackled. Jennings did, however, run out of the end zone and onto the sidelines with the ball and then it got a bit confusing.
"The league has to look at the tapes of the sideline action to see if the ball hit the ground at any point." In the Jennings Decision we can clearly see Jennings handing the ball to an equipment manager and the manger carefully placing the ball into the hands of ball boy identified as PE27 who did have it fall through his fingers on to the ground. After a lengthy debate the Final Decision committee ruled that this action appears to be part of a second process and have finally rewarded the touchdown.
"Some of the touchdown catches from Sunday and Monday are actually still within the process as I speak and they will be the last ones to be decided," warned Fuerts. "Players need to learn to maintain control of that ball until the entire process is complete which can mean different things to each referee, player, and member of the Final Decision Committee. With 28 more touchdowns to be reviewed, we hope to have final decisions and final scores of last week's games by no later than Thursday."
"We wish all the decisions were as simple as Gregg Jennings' catch. We had good film and tracked the entire process to the sidelines and into the ball boy's hands. The ball boy looked like he deliberately dropped. After an interview it was discovered he was clearly an Eagle's fan so we had to take that into consideration as well. This was a touchdown."
The league is considering placing a structure much like an altar or a shrine behind all end zones to perhaps help with finalization to a process of a catch. The thinking being, that after a catch the player would place the ball in the cradle or crib of the shrine before the ball touches the Earth. "Until we come up with a name for this device and a sponsor of the device those plans are on hold, said Fuerts. "And we will continue to review catches one process at a time."
