Fantasy Football: Brandon Jackson of Green Bay Packers a Must-Add in All Leagues

Nick CaronSep 14, 2010

The injury bug has bitten its first victim this year, and it's Packers running back Ryan Grant.

Grant, a top 20 pick in most scoring systems, has been ruled out for the season with a severe ankle injury.

The injury occurred during Sunday’s game when Grant was tackled by a host of Philadelphia Eagles defenders. Grant fell to the ground, writhing in pain, and missed the remainder of the game.

In Grant’s absence, it was former second-round pick Brandon Jackson who filled in nicely, contributing 63 yards on the ground and adding an additional 12 yards in receptions.

Jackson may not be the fantasy star Ryan Grant was, but he does have talent, and Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy has expressed confidence in Jackson’s abilities.

Be aware, however, that Jackson’s abilities are different than Grant’s. Not as strong of a runner, Jackson may be used in the passing game more extensively than his predecessor. Those in Point-Per-Reception (PPR) leagues should take notice of this when projecting Jackson’s statistics for the rest of the season.

Jackson is now the primary running back in one of the league’s best offenses, making him an immediate must-add in every scoring system. He has some great matchups coming up, including a date this Sunday with the Buffalo Bills, a team that has struggled mightily against the run in recent history. He is a potential starter in most leagues and should be the top waiver wire acquisition this week.

If you’re in a blind-bidding league for waivers, his minimum value should be around $50. If you’re going to be stingy with your money, don’t even bother. Other owners will pull the trigger for a good amount of money, and they will reap the benefits.

So stop reading this and go get Brandon Jackson—now!
