Detroit Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz: Matthew Stafford Test Results Encouraging
In his weekly news conference Jim Schwartz gave Lions fans the news they were hoping to hear about Matthew Stafford. Schwartz said, "We got some test results back and they were encouraging." He went on to say that it appears surgery would not be needed.
Schwartz would not commit to how long the second-year quarterback would be out, but he did say that no further testing was needed.
He implied that it was now all about how well Stafford is able to heal form the injury. Last year he was able to come back and play one week after suffering a similar injury to his left shoulder. The big difference here is that it is his throwing shoulder, and that will have to be much closer to 100 percent in order for him to be effective.

He said that the team would have a much better idea about Stafford's injury on Wednesday.
He was however pretty adamant that Stafford will not be rushed back.
As for the Calvin Johnson catch that was a non-catch, Schwartz seemed to agree with the officials on the call.
Schwartz implied that the spirit of the rule dictates that a player maintain possession of the ball until his momentum stops. He would not discuss whether he agreed with the rule, simply stating that it was not up to him to write the rule book.
