2010 NFL Week One Games: Fantasy Football Player Results

Week one of the 2010 fantasy football season is almost in the books and like always the first week held surprises. Teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, and Bengals failed to impress. While those teams struggled, it was the Houston Texans that finally took the next step in their division as they beat the Colts for the first time in forever.

Some of the fantasy studs for this week included busts from 2009 like Matt Forte and Greg Jennings and up starts like Arian Foster. Foster broke the Texans all-time single game rushing record and was worth all the hype he was given in August.

For IDP fantasy football safety Laron Landry came out strong as he posted seventeen tackles and linebacker Clay Matthews Jr proved his rookie year was no fluke.

Some unexpected players always have big days to start the season but don’t be discouraged if your studs didn’t get it done. It’s obviously very early in the season, and it’s still worth starting your studs (when healthy) for week two.

More Week One Notes

Wes Welker Looks Good

I told fantasy owners to bench Wes Welker until he actually showed he was back to his old self, and that didn’t take long. Welker had eight receptions and two touchdowns in his first game back from the horrible knee injury last year. While I’m still concerned he may break down as the season moves along, he is safe to start every week.

Darren McFadden 150 Total Yards

Michael Bush didn’t play against the Titans, and that gave Darren McFadden a chance to be the feature back for the Raiders. Against Tennessee, McFadden had 95 yards rushing on 18 carries and 55 yards receiving and a touchdown. If McFadden happens to be on your waiver wire, I would highly suggest you pick him up as the Raiders play the Rams next week.

Matthew Stafford Out For Awhile

I’m very disappointed in Matthew Stafford going down with an injury, and we will know more about his status early next week. At the earliest Stafford won’t be back for a couple of weeks, but it may be six weeks or longer that he is gone. Calvin Johnson proved two years ago he could be productive with any reject quarterback under center.

Don’t bench Johnson just yet but the Lions won’t be the offense I thought they would be without Stafford in the lineup.
