Spurs' Offseason Moves on Hold

Jeff McDonald of the Express-News reports that Michael Finley's future as a San Antonio Spur remains up in the air.

For two months and one week Finley has been looking for a team. While the Spurs have made it clear that they would like him back, their low offer may not convince him.

According to the report, the Spurs are believed to have tendered Finley an offer worth more than the veteran minimum of $1.3 million to keep him in San Antonio, but there’s a chance—however remote—that he could wind up back in Dallas.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, citing Finley’s agent as its source, has reported that the Dallas Mavericks have contacted the 35-year-old guard about a possible return to the Metroplex.

In the meantime, there are indications that the Spurs may only be able to sign one of their three draft picks—George Hill.

Earlier this week, the SpursReport.Com Fan Forum began buzzing with a report from Italy stating that draft pick James Gist—who impressed the Spurs with his defense and athletic, hard-nosed play during the summer games in Vegas and at the Rocky Mountain Revue—was headed to Italy.

That story or rumor (depending on who you ask) never made it to our front page because we never got a straight scoop. The Spurs now say that Gist has not yet signed with any team overseas, leaving open the possibility he still could begin next season in San Antonio.

Fans are excited about that possibility after seeing his explosive play and confidence on the court.
 
Yet another rumor has surfaced in the Fan Forums is that Jannero Pargo, another Spurs target, is being chased by the Denver Nuggets. No credible sources have yet substantiated that rumor, but the situation continues to develop.

It could be that we may have to wait until after Labor Day for things to heat up and start to fall into place. That has been the case in past years around the league.
