The NFL is Entertainment, it Doesn't Need Taylor Swift's Help

Josh McCainSep 10, 2010

Last night in my excitement for the return of football, I foolishly tuned into NBC at 7:30PM to catch the pregame show.

I knew that the Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift would be preforming and I figure at most one song each.

Nope.

Taylor kicked things off with a song that I had thankfully never heard before and if it weren't for the morons in-charge off the Kick-Off probably wouldn't have ever heard.

Where the hell was Kanye West last night.  I would have paid him anything to run up there and interrupt Swift, as long as he promised not to let her finish.

My first gripe is that why do we need a musical before the NFL.  It's football for God's sake, that is more than enough entertainment right there.

All I want from my pregame show is analysis on this game and any upcoming games.  I certainly don't need Taylor Swift.

And while we're on the subject, why the hell was Taylor Swift chosen?

What football fan wants to see her perform?

I can almost get Dave Matthews Band, a lot of guys like them so some of them probably like football, but neither choice fits the NFL.

Sure the Who (last year's Super Bowl half-time show) are old but they at least rock.  Their music gets the adrenaline pumping and that fits any sport.

You don't hear Taylor Swift or the DMB played in between plays or innings at sporting events, why would you start the season off with them?

If you're convinced that the start of the season isn't enough, at least give me some Jay-Z, Kanye, Godsmack, Slipknot, Metallica, or anyone who is going to play loud and fast because that suits football.

NFL, lets stop trying to cater to those on the fence and those who don't really care.  Why don't you do things the way the hardcore fan wants.

For starters, we don't want Taylor Swift any where near our kick-off.  Also, here's a side note—"Hey NBC, that Sunday Night song by Faith Hill has to go.  It falls under the same category as Taylor Swift did last night and that it isn't a fit for a violent game that football is."

Hank Williams Jr. on the other hand gets a pass.  His song is very dated, but has been a staple of Monday Night Football for as far back as I can remember.

One last thing before I go, for those of you saying last nights game was boring, shut up.  It was great to watch, sure it wasn't the high scoring affair that we thought it was going to be, but we got to see big plays, big hits, and a blocked extra point (of course it had to happen to the kicker on my fantasy team).

Also the most boring football game is still better than the most exciting soccer game.  Bet on it!
