Tom Brady Car Accident & Signs $72 Million Contract Extension With Patriots

Mihir BhagatSep 9, 2010

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $72 million, according to league sources.

The deal reportedly includes $48.5 million guaranteed and will keep him under terms until 2014, when he will be 37 years old.

Of course, this makes for the second time that the NFL's golden boy has made the headlines.

Early this morning, around 6:30 A.M., Brady was involved in a two-car accident near his home. Luckily, he was not hurt, and was even able to attend today's team practice without any limitations.

Note that this incident had little to do with his contract situation.

At the same time, it was critical for both sides to get the deal done before their season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals this season. Brady, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, is an integral key to their success and is truly what makes the Patriots a consistently winning team.

"It's very unconditional—the relationship I have with Coach Belichick and the whole organization. I'm blessed to play here and I love playing here. I think we're all fortunate to play for a team that's committed to winning. If that's the goal for all of us, if you want to win, you really appreciate where you're at."

Now, with the deal done, they can move forward and focus solely on the season in which they aspire to repeat as AFC East Champions and possibly even contend for their fourth championship in the past ten years.

In contrary to the critics, I firmly believe that the Patriots are still one of the premier teams in the league and I truly think they can compete with the Jets for the division crown.
