The Macho Rhino Selections For Week 2 Of The College Football Season 2010
Our top 25 gets back in action tonight with SEC play featuring Auburn at Mississippi State. Last week’s schedule some more intriguing games. This week has some games that will have a huge impact on the BCS but overall most of the top 25 is in games that should be lopsided. After going 19-3 last week, let’s hope I do better in week 2. Here’s how I see games in week 2 involving the Macho Rhino Top 25 college football teams:
1. Boise State Idle
2. Alabama vs. 21. Penn State – Even without Mark Ingram and Marcel Dareus, the Tide have enough talent to win this game. Penn State will have to get Evan Royster going and make this a slow, methodical game. Bama will not lose at home. Alabama 27, Penn State 17
3. Ohio State vs. 4. Miami – Miami has athleticism that Ohio State doesn’t see often. As tough as it is to win in the Horseshoe, I want Miami to win and am going to pick the ‘Canes in the upset. Miami 24, Ohio State 21
5. Virginia Tech vs. James Madison – James Madison will have the fury of a disappointing loss on Monday night unleashed on them. They have no chance. Virginia Tech 49, James Madison 3
6. Texas vs. Wyoming – Wyoming had players in a tragic car accident this week so they’re minds might not be totally focused on this game. Texas should jump out early but I don’t think this becomes a blowout. Texas 35, Wyoming 14
7. Iowa vs. Iowa State - This is a rivalry game and while I think the Hawkeyes have superior talent, I think the Cyclones are going to keep it close. Iowa 27, Iowa State 17
8. TCU vs. Tennessee Tech – Tech is in for another blowout this week. TCU should be able to do whatever they want in this game. TCU 42, Tennessee Tech 6
9. Florida vs. South Florida – The Gators have to improve on ball possession this week. They couldn’t hold the football last week but their far superior talent still let them win comfortably. They’ve got to break that habit. I think they will this week. Florida 31, South Florida 14
10. Oregon at Tennessee – Derek Dooley got off to a good start with 50-0 win in week 1. Unfortunatly his week 2 opponent is going to be much more difficult to defeat. The Ducks will bring a dominant rushing game to Knoxville and should roll over the Vols. Oregon 35, Tennessee 17
11. Wisconsin vs. San Jose State – San Jose State goes from playing at Alabama to playing at Wisconsin. That’s the brutal start to the season. Wisconsin should run all day. Wisconsin 49, San Jose State 7
12. Nebraska vs. Idaho – The Cornhuskers hope QB Taylor Martinez can repeat his performance from last week. The Vandals come in hoping to get one of the biggest wins in the school’s history. It’s not gonna happen. Nebraska 38, Idaho 14
13. Auburn at Mississippi State – This one should be high scoring. Both have great offenses and defenses that are suspect. I like Cam Newton to make plays that get Auburn to 1-0 in the SEC. Auburn 38, Mississippi State 30.
14. Oklahoma vs. 15. Florida State – OU was unimpressive in defeating Utah State last week while the ‘Noles rolled over Samford. Oklahoma is always tough to beat at home but I think Christian Ponder will be able to exploit their defense and get the first big win of the Jimbo Fisher era at FSU. Florida State 34, Oklahoma 27
16. Arkansas vs. UL-Monroe – Arkansas should be able to name their score again this week. Arkansas 45, UL-Monroe 7
17. Utah vs. UNLV – UNLV was able to hang with Wisconsin early because of the Badgers’ turnovers. I don’t think they’ll get those this week. The Utes will win convincingly. Utah 30, UNLV 13
18. Oregon State Idle
19. LSU at Vanderbilt - LSU held on last week to beat UNC and now travels to an SEC foe. Vandy is going to challenge them and keep this one close but LSU will get a narrow win. LSU 19, Vanderbilt 17
20. West Virginia at Marshall – A rivalry game in West Virginia, these two will go at it. Marshall is coming off a blowout loss last week while West Virginia cruised. I think the Mountaineers will have too much speed for the Thundering Herd. West Virginia 34, Marshall 17
22. Georgia Tech at Kansas – KU lost to a FCS team last week 6-3. While that’s a good effort from the defense, it’s facing a totally different beast in Joshua Nesbit and the Yellow Jackets triple option. I don’t see this one being close after the first quarter. Georgia Tech 34, Kansas 10
23. Pittsburgh vs. New Hampshire – Pittsburgh gets their first win of the season in a route. Pitt 42, New Hampshire 10
24. Michigan at Notre Dame – Michigan’s banged up after last week’s impressive win over UConn. Fortunately for them, Denard Robinson is going to line-up under center for them. I think he’ll shred the Irish defense for big runs. While the coaches are very familiar with each other from their days in the Big East, I think Rich Rodriguez has the better talent. Michigan 24, Notre Dame 20
25. BYU at Air Force – BYU was impressive in beating Washington last week. Now they run into the option attack of the Falcons. This is a toss-up game but I like Air Force. They’re an underrated team. Air Force 28, BYU 24
3 Bonus Picks for this week:
Stanford at UCLA – Stanford’s Andrew Luck got off to a great start in week 1 while UCLA is still trying to get healthy. Even though this one is at the Rose Bowl, Jim Harbaugh’s team will win. Stanford 35, UCLA 24
Georgia at South Carolina – No A.J. Green is a huge loss for the Bulldogs. This game puts the winner as the second best team in the SEC East setting up a potential big game with Florida for the East championship later in the season. I think South Carolina shows even more on offense this week and wins going away. South Carolina 30, Georgia 17
Colorado at California – This could be a regular game in a couple years when Colorado joins the Pac-12. Dan Hawkins knows this is a big game for his job hopes at CU. Jeff Tedford should have his team ready and be able to hold off the Buffs. California 27, Colorado 21
