NHL Today (9/9): Regehr, Fleischmann, Cogliano, New Jersey Devils, and More

John TaboneSep 9, 2010

Robyn Regehr

Several sources are saying that the rumors regarding Regehr earlier in the summer did hold some truth. The Calgary Flames, who are a few million over the cap, could move the defenseman soon. Two things could prevent his move though: his salary ($4.02 million cap hit) and his movement clause.

Tomas Fleischmann

Craig Custance of the SportingNews.com is reporting that Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau has stated that winger Tomas Fleischmann will not be moved and that Eric Belanger is not a Cap. That is weird because there was a deal to bring Belanger to D.C. just last month. I guess it didn't go through?

Sheldon Souray & Andrew Cogliano

Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun is reporting that Oilers GM Steve Tambellini has not made a final decision on Sheldon Souray. The aging defenseman will most likely not be traded, but there are a few other options available that Tambellini could look into.

Also, talks regarding Andrew Cogliano remain in "low gear."

Mark Everson of the New York Post is reporting that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello does not want to move defenseman Bryce Salvador despite rumors. Zajac continues to be in talks, but those talks aren't gaining speed anytime soon. Also new names on the trading block include defenseman Matt Corrente, who could be a possibility, but more salary would have to be moved anyway.

No news on Zubrus either. For now we know that Lamoriello will not move Brian Rolston and Bryce Salvador. Thing could change, but for now it seems that those two will keep their spots.

Various sources are saying that RFAs James Neal and Matt Niskanen might holdout. I doubt that it will come down to that, but it is a possibility.

Despite speculation that the Nashville Predators were going to make a splash in the trade market soon, Josh Cooper of The Tenneseean is reporting that Predators GM David Poile has stated thate he is done this offseason after re-signing defenseman Cody Franson.
