Balotelli made his long-awaited drawn out move to Eastlands from Inter in mid-August, but by having an influential performance in his debut for the club scoring in the game against FC Timisoara he also sustained this injury that is cause for surgery in this same match.
A statement from Manchester City's official website stated : "Striker Mario Balotelli is to undergo surgery on his injured knee that could rule him out for up to six weeks.
"The Italian's injury is to the lateral meniscus, one of the two most crucial structures in the knee, and medical wisdom is to try and encourage the problem to heal without recourse to an operation.
"It was hoped that the symptoms would settle down but, once Balotelli began to step up his recovery program this week, it became clear that action would need to be taken."
Balotelli has now flown back to Milan to undergo the surgery, and this can only be discouraging paired with an already lackluster start to the season for the Eastlanders. Now they'll have to depend on Carlos Tevez and their other new summer signings to adapt quickly and fill the void of the young Italian wonder kid.
