Boise State Should Not Play in BCS Championship Game, Sorry Chris Peterson
Alright...here is the deal. I'm sorry Chris Peterson, and every other school in the WAC, what I am about to say is offensive...BOISE STATE DOES NOT DESERVE TO PLAY IN THE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!
There it's been said and the debate can continue, or should there be a debate at all. Do you know how many WAC teams were in the top 50 in recruiting in 2010 according to Rivals? None, Zero, Goose Egg, a number that is in the shape of a doughnut, or an oval for those challenged in food analogies...a doughnut does sound good though, like the chocolate covered creme filled, I love those things.
Back to the issue at hand...if it is true that top recruiting classes put a school in the hunt for the national title, then Boise State does not deserve to be in the conversation. Just listen to a few of the names that have won or played for the BCS title game and do your own research on recruiting classes: Alabama, Texas, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, USC, Miami. Something sound familiar? That's right...they all have been toward the top of the recruiting rankings before winning or playing for the BCS Title Game.
Not to mention the conferences they play in. There is a huge difference in talent between the WAC and say the PAC-10. Know how many teams the PAC-10 had in the top 20 in recruiting classes? Four. How about the BIG-12? Three. How about the BIG-10? Two. How about the ACC? Three. How about the SEC? Seven. Did you hear that Boise State...Seven.
There is absolutely no comparison to the teams that Alabama, Florida, USC, Texas & Miami have to play on their way to a BCS title game, and the schedule that Boise State has to play. The point is, they would not and could not sustain in another league....PERIOD. The other leagues have too much depth and too much talent. Imagine Boise State, playing in the SEC, where 9 of the 12 teams were in the top 40 in recruiting last year alone. Alabama, if they play again for the national championship will play at least 5 ranked teams on their schedule right now...Ohio State would play 4. Understand? Not to mention facing the great coaching of the likes of Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Jim TresselUnderstand?
But Boise State played a big game against Virginia Tech, and they are playing Oregon State as well, that should count for something, right? Want to know what their recruiting rankings were? Tech was #23 last year and Oregon State #44...way to schedule some tough competition, Boise State!
Alright, I know this has been a tough article for you faithful Broncos...things will be better when you join the Mountain West right? Sure!?! They had zero teams in the top 10, top 20, and even the top 30 in recruiting...and the Mountain West's best recruiting team is leaving for the PAC-10. Good job getting in a tougher division!
Hey Broncos, don't worry...at least your field color will match the emotions of your fans when you are once again left out of the National Championship Game.
Disagree? Let me know...otherwise Boise State, enjoy a big doughnut shaped "0" on me for the number of tough opponents that remain on your schedule! Add chocolate and creme if you like, it might make it go down easier.
