2010 NFC North football betting action comes to you Sunday, September 12th from Soldier Field in the Windy City where the Chicago Bears will play host to the division rival Detroit Lions; the live FOX telecast goes at 1:00 ET. Chicago’s dominated the Lions winning each of the L/4 meetings by an average of just over 17 PPG. 2009 saw the Bears win and cover the first meeting in Chicago 48-24 as 10-point chalk and take game two in Detroit 37-23 as five-point favorites.

Point Spread: Head Coach Lovie Smith’s Bears are six-point favorites to win their fifth straight against their division rivals with the game ‘total’ set at 43.

The Lions drafted Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska to bolster their defensive line, and also drafted RB Jahvid Best from Cal to put a spark in the ground attack. Starting QB Matthew Stafford is in his second year and hopes to silence critics after throwing seven more INTs than TDs a year ago (TD/INT ratio of 13/20). With WRs Calvin Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Nate Burleson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew at his disposal, look for the Lions to greatly improve upon its offensive outputs from a year ago.

Chicago had a major letdown last season so management was very busy this past off-season. They signed free agents DE Julius Peppers to a huge six-year deal, RB Chester Taylor agreed to a four-year deal, and they signed TE Brandon Manumaleuna to a five-year deal. They drafted and signed S Major Wright from Florida to improve their soft group of safeties, and brought S Chris Harris back from Carolina who began his career in Chicago. They hope to live up to the high expectations for this year and they hope Jay Cutler bounces back from an awful 2009 season.

Trends for this game don’t look so good for the Lions. In the L/3 years when dogged, Detroit is a horrendous 1-28 SU & 11-16 ATS. Against division opponents during that same time frame, they’re 0-12 SU and 4-7-1 ATS. While Chicago has won a majority of its home games the L/2 seasons (11-5 SU) they’ve managed to churn out just an 8-8 ATS record. These division rivals have played to the ‘over’ in three of their L/4 overall meetings.
