2010 NFL Predictions: Who Has the Best Shot at an Undefeated Season?

Bailey BrautiganSep 6, 2010

With preseason games a thing of the past, it is time to get ready for some regular season NFL Football.

Whether you're a Saints fan or you root for the Lions, you hold out hope that your team will have an outstanding season.

But not everyone has a shot at going undefeated.

Here is a list of the top ten teams that have the best shot at going undefeated this season.

Do you think your team has what it takes to go 16-0?

This list may surprise you.

10. Houston Texans

First things first: Matt Leinart is by no means the reason the Texans made this list. With the Indianapolis Colts the only major competition in the AFC South for the Texans, this could be the year for Houston.

Quarterback Matt Schaub led the league in passing yards in 2009, and the Houston offense may just have what it takes to go undefeated this season.

9. San Francisco 49ers

This writer has a soft-spot for 49ers' head coach, Mike Singletary and his coaching methods, so San Francisco has made this list at number nine.

The 49ers went undefeated in the preseason, and their competition was nothing to ignore. San Francisco defeated the Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers during the preseason, and their regular season is relatively easy.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers

Even with the absence of elite quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, for the first four games of the regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked really good during the preseason.

Dennis Dixon has what it takes to lead the Steelers to victories with their first four games (two of which will be very easy wins), and with Big Ben returning off a bye week before the Steelers play their fifth game against the mediocre at best Cleveland Browns, we shouldn't be too quick to cross Pittsburgh off our list.

7. New York Giants

Eli Manning proved his toughness to us with a nasty head wound during the preseason.

And even though the Giants lost to the Steelers and the Ravens during preseason games, they showed promise against the Jets and the Patriots.

The NFC East is relatively up in the air at the beginning of this season, so the Giants have a good chance of impressing us this year.

6. Dallas Cowboys

With wins over the over-hyped Cincinnati Bengals and the ever-powerful San Diego Chargers (both on the road) during the preseason, "America's team" could step it up to play at a level to make an undefeated run all the way to a Super Bowl at their brand new stadium.

Quarterback Tony Romo will need to step up this season for the Cowboys to have a shot, but with the NFC East continuing to be a guessing game, look for the "Boys" to be back on top this season.

5. Minnesota Vikings

Brett Favre jokes aside, the Vikings have the one of the best defenses in the NFL, and they came so very close to a Super Bowl appearance last season.

If Adrian Peterson can learn to hold onto the ball, the Vikings could depend on him keep the team on track for a victorious season.

4. San Diego Chargers

Chargers' quarterback Phillip Rivers is near the top of the list of NFL quarterbacks, and even though the Chargers had a less than stellar preseason, expect San Diego to make yet another playoff run.

The first six games on the Chargers' schedule should be easy wins, and San Diego will gain the momentum needed for another excellent season.

3. Baltimore Ravens

8 of 11

Everything about the Ravens is scary, from their defense to star-in-the-making quarterback Joe Flacco.

With the addition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh at wide receiver and a relatively weak AFC North, the Ravens have the best shot at going undefeated in their division.

2. New Orleans Saints

9 of 11

We have to rank the reigning Super Bowl champs high on our list simply based on last season's performance. Quarterback Drew Brees is among the most talented NFL QBs, and we can expect big things from the Saints.

The Saints' season opener against the Minnesota Vikings will set the tone of their season, and the home turf advantage could be just what New Orleans needs to make another Super Bowl run.

1. Green Bay Packers

The Packers' preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns was just the wake up call Green Bay needed. Depending on how well the Minnesota Vikings perform this season, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers definitely have what it takes to lead the NFC North...

And the rest of the NFL.

What Do You Think?

Do you agree with these picks, or is there a team we missed?
