New York Rangers Rumor Round-Up: Huge Marc Staal Rumor, Proposal For Savard,More
Here are a few small rumors regarding the New York Rangers which may be worth watching out for:
Marc Staal: Negotiations with Marc Staal have come to a complete halt, and according to Steve Zipay, Andrew Gross, and Adam Rotter of SNY Rangers Blog, the Rangers may not be able to get Staal resigned until training camp.
According to a San Jose Sharks source, they are offering Devin Setoguchi and a high draft choice for Marc Staal. For now I'd say take this with a grain of salt (please not it says take this rumor with a grain of salt for now), but I will try to find out more.

HockeyLiveWire reports the Rangers and Sharks are in talks regarding Marc Staal.
According to HockeyLiveWire the Rangers are in talks with the Calgary Flames, and two names being thrown around are Marc Staal, and Mark Giordano.
Add the Ducks to your Marc Staal watch list, as it is believed that the Ducks will contact the Rangers if a deal is not done (with Staal) by the end of the week.
This makes sense because the Rangers are currently cap-struck and they will have to move players around to open cap space.
The much expected Wade Redden “waiver” move will give the Rangers enough money to resign Marc Staal. Wade Redden will not be waived until training camp, so I wouldn’t expect a Marc Staal contract to be signed until training camp.
Marc Savard: Steve Zipay of Newsday suggests that the Rangers could make an offer of Sean Avery, Matt Gilroy, and a second round draft to the Boston Bruins for veteran center Marc Savard.
Again, he suggested this so it is pure speculation (I cannot stress this enough! so please do not comment by saying, i doubt your Savard rumor is true becuase it is not a rumor!) for the time being. I happen to think his proposal is pretty good. The Bruins could use an agitator like Sean Avery and they could use a young defenseman like Matt Gilroy, while the Rangers could use a top-line center like Marc Savard.
Bill Guerin: According to Ken Beckett, the New York Rangers (along with Montreal, Los Angeles, and Philly) are top competitors in the Bill Guerin sweepstakes.
Earlier this summer the Rangers had expressed a lot of interest in Bill Guerin, but with the recent signing of Tim Kennedy I am not sure how the Rangers would fit Guerin onto the roster.
Ryan Johnson: The Rangers continue to hold interest in veteran center Ryan Johnson. But with the signing of Tim Kennedy, there is really no spot for Johnson on the Rangers roster.
Slava Kozlov: According to Todd Cordell, Kozlov has not signed in the KHL just yet and he is generating some interest from clubs in need of offense.
This is pure speculation for the time being, but don’t be surprised if Glen Sather attempts to make a last minute signing like he did last season with Vinny Prospal. I understand that Kozlov is old (38) but two seasons ago, while playing alongside Ilya Kovlachuck, Kozlov put up some excellent numbers.
Maybe he would do the same playing with Gaborik, Frolov, or Aasen? I could see him at least being given an opportunity at training camp (try-out), but that’s just me.
According to Todd Cordell and Andy Strickland, the Rangers have expressed interest in winger Ruslan Fedotenko and could invite him to training camp some time very soon.
Defense problem: There are many veteran defensemen still available on the free agent market that the Rangers may attempt to sign, or give a tryout contract to.
Last season Sather went after Alexei Semenov (who was forced to reject an offer given to him by Sather, because his wife wanted to go back to Russia) and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sather give an opportunity to someone else, like Andreas Lilja, Paul Mara, or maybe even Mike Mottau.
There is also the possibility that Glen Sather moves a few forwards for a defenseman, thus opening space on the roster for prospects such as Mats Zuccarello-Aasen to play on a forward line.
The top defenseman on my watch list would have to Robyn Regher, but if Sather can acquire a better crease-clearing defenseman I’d be fine with that also.
That’s all for now, thanks for the read hope you enjoyed. Feel free to leave a comment below.
(Small FYI) Started this week I will write less, and less frequently (likely two-three times a week) and it will probably stay that way until the regular season begins (because there is just not much to write about).
