2010 NFL Fantasy Player Rankings: T.J. Houshmandzadeh Cut, Mike Williams In

Sean E. DouglasSep 4, 2010

Just last offseason veteran receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh signed with the Seattle Seahawks for a big contract. In 2009, Houshmandzadeh struggled and had his second down season for fantasy football owners.

At one point in the season Houshmandzadeh even went as far as to publicly question why he signed with the Seahawks and not with the Vikings.

In January Pete Carroll came over from USC and brought his own staff members in from his former team. With this change, it was thought that Houshmandzadeh wasn’t a good fit for the team because he was a slow receiver.

This must have been true as the team finally cut ties with him after seeking a trade over the past few days. Now, Houshmandzadeh will go to another team and his fantasy value is up in the air.

For the Seahawks it looks like they are ready to start former USC receiver Mike Williams. Williams was a horrible bust for the Detroit Lions after he had to sit out of college for a season for hiring an agent and then wanting to come back and play in college. While Williams had his struggles in the past it seems like his home coming to Coach Carroll has been a positive return.

Williams has had a solid preseason, but admittedly I didn’t write much of anything about his progress during August. With a receiver like Williams that has been non-existent in the past, I wanted to see him win a starting job before he had any fantasy relevance.

Fantasy Outlook For Sehawks Passing Game, T.J. Houshmandzadeh

Outside of stashing tight end John Carlson away as a backup, I can’t recommend you select anyone in this passing offense at your draft. However, Mike Williams could make for an interesting waiver wire pickup if you didn’t get good depth at your draft or are looking to scrap Houshmandzadeh off your team.

For Houshmandzadeh, I would at least keep him on your squad until we findout which team he goes to, and if he will start right away.

In the end, Houshmandzadeh may have better fantasy value with another team than if he stayed in Seattle this year. The Seahawks are going through lots of change, and it is clear they are playing for a year or two down the road.

Don’t be surprised if Seattle makes a play for Vincent Jackson, but if he isn’t acquired than Williams may be the best fantasy receiver for this team in the near future.
