Michigan's New Threads
This is old news but we never covered with any degree of comprehension. I know there are more pressing topics to be covered, but I thought I would mention it now (albeit in abbreviated fashion).
Michigan got new uniforms. And, we think they have a little Oregon in them. It is as if they lost more than a game last September when Oregon pounded the Wolverines 38-0. They agreed to redesign their uniforms to have unique and ridiculous details.
When the rumors initially made the rounds the reactions were aghast. They were West Virginia look a likes. They were un-Michigan. And, well “they” may be right.
Before we get into the specifics about the uniforms, we would be remiss if we did not recount Ohio State’s jersey controversy from 2006. Fans were pissed! Sample quotes include:
"Scarlet and Gray! There is a serious lack of GRAY MATTER in those responsible for this decision."
"I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t even concentrate on typing this message because I’m so angry."
"This is classic ?progress? in the spirit of ?New Coke.? "
Suffice it to say, the Buckeyes are not beyond reproach when it comes to dressing themselves. But leaving a little gray off the sleeves is not the same as what the Michigan brass came up with. Ohio State did not do this:
The home uniforms do not look nearly as West Virginian as the road versions, and they even include some interesting, if not good, details. I think the “M Go Blue” is pretty cool but they shoulder pad area is weird. Celebrate your championships all you want, but do you really want Laurinaitis and Co. driving them into the turf over and over.
So, pretend you are an objective fan. What do you think about these?
