Arizona Cardinals Defeat Washington Redskins in Preseason Finale, 20-10

Chad MiddletonSep 3, 2010

Watching the Arizona Cardinals these days is like watching a great hand of poker. Thursday was no different as the Cardinals defeated the Redskins—er at least their backups—20-10 in University of Phoenix Stadium.

Derek Anderson was efficient in his first and only drive in the first quarter. He was two for three for 47 yards, and the drive was highlighted by rising star Stephen Williams' great catch.

Matt Leinart went three for five for 14 yards in his two series. He wasn't impressive as he stuck with short routes. You still don't see fire with Leinart, but with all the trade talk during the week, it would be difficult to stay focused. His time with the Cardinals appears limited, especially after the play of third string quarterback Max Hall.

Hall finished with 126 yards on seven for nine passing, and displayed some impressive composure. He made some very nice touch passes, most notably on a blown play to Alfonso Smith in the third quarter.  His accuracy, coupled with his intangibles, have to make Coach Whisenhunt feel good about using him as a backup.

Hall exuded confidence in his play Thursday night.

"I feel like I can move the offense," said Hall after the game.

You really can't doubt his words after watching him this preseason.

There were some scary moments last night. Beanie Wells came up limping pretty bad after he took a nasty hit. It looked bad, but Beanie said after the game he was fine. Stephen Williams also came up limping after trying for a nice grab in the end zone.

The fourth preseason game wasn't pretty by any account, but for some of the guys, it was crucial. We will take our stabs at guessing the final 53 at some point, but most of the decisions should be made by today.

The most important question is where will Matt Leinart be. Will he make the team and be a second or third string QB? Or will he be cut?

I think he will be cut, which will not be a real surprise, but maybe that's what Matt needs.

Regardless, the mystery ends Saturday.
