Shadow Of a Legend: Detroit Lions Running Back, Jahvid Be(a)st

I just sat there with my jaw dropped. I know it was just the 3^rd preseason game. 

Everyone tells me not to get too excited. 

History shows me to calm done.

Statistics beg me not to look in between the lines. 

In fact, some laugh when I just mention who he plays for and the backfield he takes over for; that has been bandaged for years since “The Legend” retired.

My answer to all of that is simple: so what! It’s a New Year baby and Jahvid Best is the truth! Mark my words you fantasy and/or Madden players…this guy has more than just speed. He has got vision, hands, explosiveness, shiftiness…he has even managed to pick up the blocking scheme.

He is no sleeper, he is the starter, and the feature back has arrived. No competition. Period! 

So alas, that’s where the Barry Sanders aka “The Legend,” comparisons kick in. But wait; hold on before you start mumbling un-pleasantries (I heard that!)…this guy is different.  He is Sanders: 2.0!

This guy is so special (after 3 preseason games) in his own way (not the Reggie Bush way). I know you don’t believe me so go watch the tape. Watch it!  His first play from scrimmage this past week went for 51 yards of awesome-ness-ing-ly-glee!

“It felt good. I wish I would’ve ended up with six points but it was a good run – it was blocked perfectly so I just hit the seam,” Best said.  This guy is modest, and smooth…threw a bone to his team mates for opening the hole.

Then he put the exclamation point in with a reception for ten yards, which guarantees a first down.  Yes anybody can get a first, just not like this man can. Excuse me while I get off of his jock.

Now, let’s get a few things straightened out here. The Detroit Lions have constructing a real team (something Barry never had (sad))… and now they’re relevant again…finally.  What’s it been, about ten or fifty years or so, I can’t remember!

I’ve been a fan of them since I was a kid, but I have learned to keep my expectations in check. To do the same things and expect different results would not only be insanity (by the way, that’s the definition!) but criminal.

But this offense, defensive line (Suh took Jake Delhomme’s head off, penalty or not; I love the aggressiveness…get’em killer) Coach Swartz and his staff, plus the front office has me guzzling “I believe” juice and its dam tasty too, with a lime! Hopefully they give me a ride home and don’t try to take advantage of me like that other time…and the time before that.                

Look, I know I’m just some guy, who like you enjoys his sports too much (that’s what SHE says).  But I know who has “It” (I love you wifee. You’re the best!). This guy is oozing “It,” in a football way of course! You all have been warned and you’ve heard it here first…Sanders 2.0 is real. A legend could be in the making again. Jahvid Best will be a beast this year in the NFL for sure, no doubt.  

Get to know him well and be prepared for the Ford family’s new Mustang concept to blow by you. Remember, no touching!
