US Open Day 4 Tennis Betting Tips

Premiership TipsSep 1, 2010

Nikolay Davydenko v Richard Gasquet

Neither player fairing too well heading into Flushing Meadows, but both made a comfortable start with straight set victories in round one. Nikolay Davydenko finished last season winning the World Tour Finals and started this year on flying form on hard courts. On the same surface at the US Open, I expect him to enjoy the conditions and make a good run through the tournament without ever becoming a serious contender to win the whole thing. As for Richard Gasquet, he remains a better clay courter than on hard court and despite his odds for this match, I can’t see him winning three sets against Davydenko.

James Blake v Peter Polansky

James Blake can’t be too far short of finishing his career. It’s been a long time since he’s looked competitive in serious tournaments. But he cruised to a first round victory over arguably a more difficult opponent. Now facing Peter Polansky in round two, who has spent most of his career on the ITF circuit. The Canadian beat Juan Monaco who was returning from an injury that had kept him out since the French Open, to record his second win on the ATP tour this season. I know James Blake is hardly reliable, but even these odds are disrespectful to the American, suggesting Polansky has a chance.

Maria Kirilenko v Yvonne Meusburger

A straightforward victory in round one for Maria Kirilenko who headed into this tournament in good shape. Another straightforward victory should be on the cards tomorrow against Yvonne Meusburger. The Austrian pulled off a respectable victory over Jill Craybas, coming from a set down to get this far. But that’s hardly a compliment. The erratic and inconsistent Austrian will be no match for her Russian opponent.

Dominika Cibulkova v Kateryna Bondarenko

Perhaps it’s because Dominika Cibulkova needed three sets to defeat Stefanie Voegele on Tuesday that the bookmakers are being generous with her odds in round two. Or perhaps it was because Kateryna Bondarenko defeated Li Na in her opening match. It was fair to say the soaring heat got the better of her Chinese opponent who had cruised her way to taking the first set. A tougher task lies ahead for Bondarenko, whom can be overpowered by her short opponent, Cibulkova on Thursday. The Slovakian is the better of the two players heading into this match. She just needs to make sure the weather doesn’t get the better of her.
