NFL: Miami Dolphins Tight End Joey Haynos Clears Waivers, Lands on I.R.

Chris J. NelsonSep 1, 2010

As a quick update to a much-covered story on my website, Miami Dolphins tight end Joey Haynos has officially cleared waivers and was placed on the team's injured reserve list Tuesday.

Haynos, who suffered what appeared to be a significant foot injury against the Atlanta Falcons last Friday, was waived by the team Monday.

With no roster limit benefits to waiving Haynos injured (as opposed to placing him directly on injured reserve), the move was likely made by the team in the faint hope that someone would claim Haynos off waivers and take on his 2010 salary.

Due to his injury and simply not being that highly-regarded as an NFL prospect, it was very likely that no one would bite and claim Haynos off waivers.

The Dolphins can now opt to work out an injury settlement with Haynos and release him from injured reserve. If he were to remain on IR all season, he would be a restricted free agent in the 2011 offseason.
