Chicago Blackhawks Season Preview: March

March is an important time for any NHL team.  March is the last full month of games prior to the playoffs so teams will be playing hard in order to make the playoffs this month.  The Blackhawks will certainly be no exception to the rule here as they make an attempt to win their second Stanley Cup in just two seasons.

The first game of the month will be played at home against the Calgary Flames.  In action last season, the Blackhawks and the Flames played a total of four games with the Blackhawks winning all four.  If they can have the same success this season it will be much easier for Chicago to get into the playoffs.

After that, Chicago will host the Carolina Hurricanes.  The Blackhawks and the Hurricanes played just one time last season with the Hurricanes winning that game.  Although it’s just one game, the Blackhawks will still want to get a win here so that they can continue moving forward towards the playoffs.
Chicago will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto three games into the month.  In action last season, the Blackhawks and the Maple Leafs got together once and the Blackhawks won that lone game.  Hopefully, they will be able to repeat that success this season.

The Blackhawks will make their way to Florida to take on the Panthers after their trip to Toronto.  This game will be the first of two games (the other game brings the Panthers to the United Center in Chicago towards the end of the moth) for both teams in March.  Last season, these two teams met twice and they split their two games against one another.  

Following their game at Florida, the Blackhawks will stay in the state (of Florida) and travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning for the first time this year.  During last season, these two teams met just once and the Blackhawks won that game.  This one or two time games should be just as important to the Blackhawks as any of the “series” games that they play so look for them to play this one tough.

Chicago will then travel to Washington to take on Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.  These two teams played against one another just once last year with the Capitals beating the Blackhawks in overtime.  Hopefully, Chicago can beat them this season.

After the Blackhawks visit Washington, they will head home to take on the San Jose Sharks.  Last season, the Blackhawks and the Sharks met four times and the Blackhawks gained a 3-1 advantage over them in those four games.  Chicago will need a repeat performance of that kind in order to help propel themselves into the playoffs this coming season.

The Blackhawks' next game will be against the Dallas Stars in Dallas.  Last season, these two teams met a total of four times splitting the series at two wins a piece.  Hopefully by now Chicago is wining and can continue on towards the playoffs with a win against the Sharks here.

The Blackhawks will head west to play the Phoenix Coyotes as we near the end of March.  Their record in the four games that they played against the Coyotes last season was 2-2.  The Coyotes will be a tough team to go up against but the Blackhawks, knowing that they need to win these games in order to make the playoffs, should play hard enough to win.

Following their visit to Phoenix the Blackhawks will come back home to take on the Florida Panthers.  After their game against the Panthers, Chicago will host the Anaheim Ducks.  In action last season, the Blackhawks and the Ducks met four times and the Ducks won three of those four games.  Hopefully, the Blackhawks can turn the tables on them this season and come away with a better record against them.

The Blackhawks will head to Detroit to take on their arch rival Red Wings towards the end of the month.  These two teams met six times last season and split the six games.  This is a heated rivalry and with the season coming to an end soon (at the time that they play this game) and playoff hopes on the line this should be a very good game.

The final game that the Blackhawks will play in the month of March will take them to Boston to take on the Bruins.  Chicago and Boston played each other two times last season and each team won a game.  Look for this to be an important game for both teams as they hope to close out the month of March on a high note.
